Built platform an fixed rack to it today... Before an afters:

Was just carpet on the concrete before. Now I have a base of 18mm wood with 12mm ply in the centre covered by carpet an two layers of old conveyor belt rubber on each side. Looking forward to deads tomorrow!

Way to be at it, building your own haven to train away from any given riff raff at any given time.

Like what's going on with that bro.

Looks good bro! I need to bolt my rack down, just holding off until I get all my equipment that I want before I do. That way I can put everything in place where I want it to be.

Cheers coke! It's really good not having to go anywhere to train too. Chuck on the gym gear, get in the zone an hit the garage. Love it!

Yeah Brian I won't be getting much more for a while an trying to optimize the little space available for me and that did the trick. Was nice to deadlift on an the rubber was nice an strong even with Jono's weights today. Good sign!!

W10D1 Final Run into the O's

Final Deadlift Session - Mon 26th Nov

    11 Days Out...

    Deadlifts

    60kg *5 - 2 sets
    100kg * 3 - 2 sets
    150kg * 2
    200kg * 1
    230kg (506lbs) * 1 - 2 sets both @8, belt on
    250kg (550lbs) * 1 @9.5
260kg (572lbs) * 1 @10 - tough but better than two weeks ago, see vid.
    Speed Sets
    162.5kg * 3 - 2 sets

Video of 230kg sets, and the 250kg an 260kg sets.
    Video

    Note / Thoughts:
    - This session went well. Some earlier weights felt a bit tough and nothing really felt super easy, but the weights looked like they moved ok in the video. Better than two weeks ago, so the reduced volume is obviously helping the recovery.

    - 11 days without any Deadlifts now - that will help the recovery. The body will be more than ready to rip the weight off the floor on the 7th of December.

    - 11 more days...

W10D2 Final Run into the O's

Bench Singles Session (maybe last heavy bench day?) - Tue 27th Nov

    10 Days Out...

    Bench Press

    20kg * 10
    60kg * 3 - 2 sets
    100kg * 2 - added WW
    120kg (264lbs) * 1@9
    125kg (275lbs) * 1 @9.5
    132.5kg (291lbs) * 1 @10 - all calls (recorded)

    Pull Ups
    Wide Grip: BW * 8 - 3 sets
    Neutral Grip: BW * 8 - 3 sets

    Video of top Benching set
    Video

    Note / Thoughts:
    - Left shoulder was playing up today so didn't want to push it too much. Wanted to go to 137.5kg really (as that or 140kg will be my second) but didn't want to risk anything this close.

    - 132.5kg felt pretty smooth given the shoulder so rather pleased with it. May do one more session of bench, perhaps with the squats later this week. Then it is just a light as 3 lift session before game day.

    - Things are feeling strong an the deload will make it even stronger. Also its good psychologically to know my weights work out to be heavier than face value. That's going to be good knowledge on game day, will smash these weights.

    - 10 more days...

    Thanks Tom!

Some thoughts on my Weight Gain/Loss in 2012:

Well this is just going to be a bit of a scatter of thoughts as they come to mind in regard to my recent year of weight loss and gain. Feel free to put your thought about similar things. I just wanted to get some of these things down. (Note: this may be long...)

So at the start of 2012 I had just finished a short cut where I ended up at about 78-79kg. This was made to occur quite easily as at the time I was taking spin classes at the gym I was working at. I finished there in mid January and started my current (mainly office scenario) job and ceased cardio completely. I decided I wanted to put on weight an do so in any manner possible. This meant I ate a lot of food. Didn't matter what it was, pies, cakes, sweets I ate it. I never tracked my protein an probably ate too little of it even though I was eating a lot of food as I was eating any an everything. But IT WORKED! My bodyweight moved up quickly as did my lifts. My deadlift over the 4-6 months of dirty bulking moved from 245kg-ish at the start of the year to 272.5kg in June. My best raw bench in competition went from about 115kg-ish to 135kg (may have been higher had my elbow not been playing up before my last comp in the 93's in June). My squat surpassed my equipped 240kg to a raw 242.5kg. Fair to say I was pleased with that result!! (Programming wise the major two I ran were Coan Phillipi alongside 531 and then 5by5 advanced - both worked really well).

What happened next (mid June, weight peaked at about 91kg) when I look back I can't really see my logic. My weights were moving up really steadily and was making awesome gains. I felt a bit fat though and must have seen too much of Zyzz, I don't know, but I decided to cut weight to the U83kg's for nats (was also done as thought I could cut weight an keep my strength an so be more competitive in international meets). I worked with JakeCampus.com to lose the weight an basically managed to lose 10kg's from the middle of June to nats in August an a further 2kg after that by the WBOP classic meet in September. Strength remained ok. At nats I hit 220kg squat, 125kg bench an 262.5kg dead - followed a program I make myself, basically linear periodisation. WBOP comp I hit 227.5kg squat, 127.5kg bench an 245kg dead - focused on bench an squats with Russian program, only deadlifted twice over those six weeks. Did low intensity cardio from a few weeks before nats till the WBOP comp. So basically after losing approx 11kg I lost 15kg from my squat, 7.5kg from my bench an 10kg from the dead (27.5kg by WBOP comp though but that was more through neglecting it for 6 weeks!).

All in the weight loss was successful if I look at wilks, as it was up in all aspects except the squat:
Squat 154.6 vs 153.2 (best lift pre cut vs post cut)
    Bench 86.5 vs 86.8
    Dead 173.8 vs 176.8
    Total 406.8 vs 409.1

Since the lowest point of the cut (WBOP Meet) I have increased the calories and am aiming to weigh in close to 83kg (was 80.35kg at the WBOP meet, so have gained a little weight since the end of september) at the Oceania's. All weights lifted should be increased since that meet and I am hoping to get 640kg or more as a total in this lower weight class. That would be ideal an make the cutting a success in my eyes. I think I should get very close to that number or surpass it, if things go well, based from my training to date.

So looking back what are my thoughts...

    - Cutting weight is easy if you have the mental fortitude, but expect losses in strength. I didn't really lose too much but do wish I was hitting bigger numbers still, was hard mentally to get weaker.

    - A thought I have had is yes wilks has gone up but if I had stayed heavier an continued getting stronger i know my wilks would have improved at the higher weight class too, so really although it looks like I've gained with that formula I think I probably would have had better wilks by now if still in the U93kg's.

    - Next time I gain weight I will keep an eye on the protein an macros a bit more an do it cleaner. I expect this weight gain will begin straight after the O's.

    - A discussion I had with good NZ lifter a while ago has rang true to me and this is partly why I will be gaining weight after the O's. He pretty much (reworded but catches the essence of it) said 'don't you want to be lifting big weights, not just big weights for a weight class'.

    60kg * 5
    100kg * 3 - 2 sets
    150kg * 2 - 2 sets
    200kg (440lbs) * 1 - 2 sets - add WW+B
    215kg (473lbs) * 1 @9
    227.5kg (500lbs) * 1 @9.5
    230kg (506lbs) * 1 @10
    200kg (440lbs) * 3 @9

    Video of Squats
    Video

    Note / Thoughts:
    - Plan was just to work up to Squat opener. Only two days off after heavy Deads so wasn't expecting it to be a great day.

    - Seemed to be able to get depth pretty spot on (let me know if I'm wrong!!). Think jumping from 215kg to the opener was ideal. Since these weights add up to be about 2kg higher than face value, I'm still considering 230kg for an opener, see how I'm feeling on the day.

    - Happy with the day in general. Now to rest up an come to the O's fully recovered. May have one more bench session but then again may not. Depends if shoulder feels good Saturday, not too worried about that session though, just see how I go.

    - 8 days to go...

Interesting read Hayden. I always thought that you'd be further along had you kept bulking, but I understand you were taking another route. Moving on strong, no doubt though...you do excel and that's all that matters.

Good job...depth seems to be there, but it will depend by how strict the judges will be.

Nice weight loss reading: I have to find a lean-bulk approach that works for me, too, since I have so much margin to fill the 83's (bw @ 77, and I could shed fat for sure, so that gives me a 8-10 kg of muscles to add in the next couple of years)

Yeah Rock a clean bulk can be tough but some fat will always come! You have a lot of room to move weight up within the class man. Will make a big difference putting that extra weight on. I normally sink my squats deeper in a comp out of adrenaline an nerves so hoping its ok.

Thanks JLS! The rest is making me feel prety fresh. Lots of foam rolling and a few short walks here an there. 50% day is tomorrow, will be nice an easy going through the motions.

Awesome bro will be good to know there's a few people watching. Going to be good. Saw the venue when they were testing the live stream, looks a good size and what not. Exciting!!

I won't bother logging it after I do it tonight but this afternoon I will do my 3 by 3 at 50% of openers on all three lifts. Have been rolling and walking a little for recovery. Feeling fresh and itching to get lifting...
