    Squat

Realized today that since hitting my first 300# bench, I'm now benching the same as I squat. And that's just WRONG! So I hit up squats and went for a PR. Done. Was planning on working my way back down the weights and doing a little volume after the PR, but as soon as I racked the 305, everything got real blurry, dark and tingly real quick. Even put me on the floor. After I shook the cobwebs out I decided I should probably call it a day. Which sucks because I think I had 310 in the tank too. Oh well. Gives me something to do next week. I did realize that I'm wasting way too much time/energy on my warmup with squats. I'd normally do 2-3 sets with the bar and each of the 2 lower weights before jumping under 255. Today I did the bare minimum and it felt awesome! This knowledge is gonna really increase my strength curve.

    SQUAT:
    115 x 10
    185 x 5
    255 x 2
    285 x 1
    305 x 1* PR

    DONE

    Best lifts (non competition):

    Bench - 300
    Deathlift - 405

well done on another PR Bruiser!

I do a lot of very light warmup reps for squats but that's only because my old legs need it... I don't do too much with any real weight.
Age: 41 - Height: 5'10" - Weight: 197lb (NOT LEAN! (but maybe finally getting a little bit leaner?))

    Squat: 180kg (396lb) x 2
    Front Squat: 100kg (220lb) 5 x 5
    Zercher Squat: 140kg (308lbs) x 1
    Bench Press: 110kg (242lb) x 1
    Deadlift: 220kg (484lb) x 1

What made me try less warm up was reading Gaz's training log. When I saw how little warmup he does compared to me, I figured I'd give it a try.

    Ughhh. Cutting...

I'm sitting at 255 right now and was planning on getting back up to 275 for the meet in 12 weeks because I didn't want to try cutting during meet prep being its my first meet. Well, guess again! Last night I had a BAD sleep apnea episode. It took almost an hour to cough all the stomach acid up out of my lungs. The wife almost had to take me to the ER. So now I'm doing low-no carb and I.F.

Great squat, bud! I know the light-headedness after racking a heavy squat, haha!

Good idea with the fewer warmups; I used to do more warmup sets, but since Alex.V took over my programming he's had me doing the bare minimum warmups. The remaining sets feel very heavy, cos your limbs are a bit less limber, but the trade-off is that you have more in the tank to crank out the max-effort sets!

Your last post is a bit confusing, bud - what you decided on, gonna continue bulking or gonna tighten up a bit first?

    Delts

Did some pretty boy stuff today. Lower back was pretty stiff so I didn't hit any OHP. Another fast and furious Delt session. 20 minutes door to door.

Good call on skipping OHP - never any point risking the lower back. Always awful to walk around like a cripple for a few days after doing something silly and tweaking it, haha!

And 15lbs? Pfft - you could do that in a month, bud, easy.

It'll be easy, not fun... but easy. I eat a ton of crap food to put on weight. So all I do to cut is drop carbs and only eat from 10am to 6pm. Then throw a fat burner in too and I cut real fast!

stop moaning and get lifting if you have a meet coming up bruiser!

im only messing, can you expand on that sleep apnea issue? It sounds like I may have a bit of it developing? I'd be distraught if I was told I have to lose 14lbs. Id actually rather pass away in my sleep. At least id be going in a big box! bit of carb manipulation and you should be fine buddy!

    Bitch.

I found out about my sleep apnea because I just figured it was really bad snoring. I slept on the couch for almost 6 months! Lol. I would just lay there for a couple hours before I could fall asleep. When I got my sleep study done I found that I wasn't just laying there, I was nodding off over an over again but kept waking up. I was having 90 "apnea events" every hour where I'd stop breathing. That's 1 1/2 times a minute! Once I got my machine a slept great at first but then started getting headaches. Then I ended up in the hospital for 5 weeks with pancreatitis and lost over 60 lbs. So then I didn't need the machine. Now as I've gotten my stregnth and size back it's starting up again, so time to cut weight. Ughhh.

    Deads

Hit deads yesterday and things did NOT go well. The other day I finally picked up a mat for doing deads. Got it laid out and it's the perfect size. Very first pull my heels sunk in a bit and something pinched in my back. Didn't think anything of it. Did some more volume and by the time I got done with the 365 I decided to go for 395. I went tough but then half way up I felt a pop. It didnt hurt too bad but last night I could barely walk. Today isn't any better and I'm getting ready to decide on going to urgent care. Right now I'm gonna call it and say NOPE to the push/pull in May and just focus on benching for a while. I'll still do the meet, but I'm not gonna pull. Today is gonna be about stretching, Aleve, heating pad and plenty of water. Gotta try get this disk rehydrated and knock this pain down. Gonna rest up and hope I can avoid the dr but it's not looking good.

    DEADS:
    135 - 3x10
    225 - 3x5
    315 - 3x3
    365 - 3x1
    395 x 0

    PULLDOWNS:
    5x10

Sorry to hear that bud - had that happen to me several times now in only a coupla years of training.

Always happens when something throws me off - be it lifting in a new gym or whatever.

Rest it up, get plenty of heat on it and I'm sure it'll be right as rain by this time next week

    Gameplan

Decided I'm not doing the push/pull. I might do the bench only but not sure at this point. Gameplan for the year is simple. No heavy squats or DL. For the year! My stregnth is increasing far faster than the soft tissue and connective tissue is. So once I heal I'll do only light weight (100-200#) for high reps. Just spend this year slowly bringing up both lifts. Once I heal I will still go ripshit riot on bench though!

    Done

It's been brought to my attention that I need to reconsider my "priorities". Meaning give up lifting. Sometimes it's easier to give up things you enjoy rather than continue to argue for another 7 years. You guys have helped me out a lot and I wouldn't be the guy I am without the friends I've made on ths forum. Thank you guys and take care.

You won't be able to get a hold of me on FB either. The account I was using is now just hers. So I cleaned off all my friends/likes/etc because apparently it was annoying for me to have friends. So no, I'm not pissed at you. Adios bitches.
