The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    5'11, 240lbs fattie -- time to cut

Time for me to cut, I'd like to try and have abs for once in my life but have no clue how to start. Anyone know if "The New Abs Diet" is a good book on dieting for weight lifters?
Think I'm about 20% BF now, probably need to get down to 195-200lbs for nice abs

Looking pretty damn good at 240. Thick for sure.

For dieting I'd look into carb cycling. There's a few good e-books up on the elitefts website that would get you started. The lean-gain principles and the simple guide to low-carb diets by Shelby Starnes are considered excellent by many. I can't say I have heard of the book you mentioned though.

    Update 8/25/12

I bulked up, heaviest I got was 247#, cut to 200# -- very lean, looked almost sick --

bulked up, currently at 209.8# as of 8/25/2012.

goal is to be as strong and lean as possible.

PICS were taken today @ 209.8#, height 5'11'' ... oh yeah, and I have no clue how to pose, not that I really care.

Look great! That's a hell of a transformation. Hard to believe you are 30lbs lighter in that last set.

Thanks man. I wanted to cut to 185, but my body didnt agree with it. I floated around 200 for at least a good 4-6 months but was feeling weak and lethargic. Feeling pretty good at 210. Goal is to slowly bulk to 225ish and see how I feel there.

Awesome progress! Good going. How did you cut? Basic calorie deficit or did you go with low-carb or something?

Just for the sake of curiosity, at 200lbs I was probably around 8% BF, and I had everyone comment that I had really wierdly shaped abs. Basically it looks like I have 4 big, oddly shaped blocks and a big canyon running vertically down my abs. Are my abs not developed enough for that nice, compact 6 pack look, not even sure if I can get a sick pack? Perhaps I just wasn't lean enough yet?

Losing the hair will help with the whole "canyon" thing.

ab shape cant really be helped, but your abdomen was not 8%. closer to 11-12%. at lower bf levels, i would reason that the canyon would be more pronounced. diet down and lets find out...

i agree with dan though. the hair isnt helping in those shots. its adding depth in an already low lighting situation. hard to say for sure

I agree that in the most recent photos I posted I wasn't around 8%. I was pretty close to it when I was hovering around 200lbs though, and was eating a very low carb diet. It was just a question out of curiosity, imo, abs are overrated.
