The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    15 min mob

    deadlift
    135 x 5
    135 + 80# chain x 2
    225 + 80# chain x 2
    295 + 80# chain x 1
    335 + 80# chain x 1

    375 + 80# chain x 1
    385 + 80# chain x 1

last time I pulled 345 + 120 chain. So this adds up the same but is closer to being 465 off the floor, which is great.

    GMs
    ba
135 x 8, 3 sets. Took it easy and worked on stretch and time under tension

    WOD
    250m row
    10 kb swings (53#)
    5 wall ball burpees (20#)
    500m row
    20 kb swings
    10 wall ball burpees
    750m row
    40 kb swings
    20 wall ball burpees

Took 28 minutes or so, very hard but I'm just starting conditioning again.

10 min mob. Hamstrings are mega sore, lower back, and for some reason my wrists/forearms are haggard. Decided on something easy

    Bench, tng
    bar
    135, wrists!!
185, just feeling a bit wrecked
    215 x 1
    235 x 1
    255 x 1
    270 x 1
280 x 1, this was fine, no struggle at all. Pretty happy given a) I feel a bit wrecked and b) usually have to sorta peak to have a decent bench. The fact that 280 feels fine on a mediocre day with little bench work lately is great news.

    Ring muscle ups
about 5 sets of 2, emom. The ring setup sucked so it was a bit different

    WOD
    Emom, 5 minutes:
muscle up + 5 ring dips
    3 ring pullups
    15 pushups.

the 4th or so round i had to skip the muscle up and just jump to dips.. my shoulder kinda got haggard from uneven rings

    EXTRA
    skulls, 80# 3 sets of 12

    3 sets:
    cable x over x 10
    + face pull x 15
    + push downs x 12

    Mobility
45 minutes of stretching everything, upper and lower
    100 band curls
    100 band pushdowns

Got tricked! thought we were lifting hard but totally forgot about the 12 days of Christmas.
Every year, new years eve or so you do a workout like the song.
    so...

1 overhead squat (all bar weight 95#)
    2 rack jerks + 1 ohs
    3 power cleans + 2 rack jerks + 1ohs
    4 deadlifts + the above
5 hand release pushups + the above
6 toe to bar + all the above
... at about this time it's only been 4 or 5 minutes so you're thinking no biggie, halfway there. But the way the rounds accumulate you're barely started
    7 box jumps + above
8 plate pushes .. ok this is where it starts to suck. 80 yards of plate pushes is bad enough, but there're 5 rounds that include it
    9 chirpees + above
    10 bar dips + above
    11 kb swings (53#) + above
12 squat clean thrusters + above

took me around 45 minutes. I wanted to squat after but out of time. Not sure how well my schedule will work coming up because I have an out of town wedding this weekend, then head to san diego for 6 days. My buddy Aj Roberts lives in SD and he's training for a bodybuilding show, but his fiancé is training for a meet.. so I may get to lift with one or both of them, otherwise it's probably a long break unfortunately.

    Week 4 Day 1 (Monday December 30)
    oly work

Weird week, gone for a wedding saturday and leave Tuesday for San Diego and dunno if I can train so I'ma try to get in a couple today.

    20 min mob

    Snatch
    bar ohs for a bit
    95 3 position snatch
    105 3 position
    115 x 1 snatch
    135 x 1
    145 x 1, caught it forward
    145 x 1 good
    150 x 1 super clean
    155 x high pull

Strength was feeling great but tech sucked.. not getting down or under at all

    Clean & jerk
135 power clean + split jerk + front squat
    155 c&j, caught very high
    175 c&j slightly better
195 c&j feeling super easy just not getting down
205 c&j, pr jerk. clean I didn't let go with my left wrist and caught high, but jerk looked great
    215 x high pull

ok day overall, shoulda been a lot better. Feel like all the strength and positions are wayyyy stronger, but my abiliity to get down (aka tech / confidence / mental game) was suppper weak

Thanks man, it'd probably been 5 years since I hit a 3 board haha

    Week 4 day 3 (Friday Jan 4)
ME Lower, World Gym San Diego

30 min mob, haven't had decent mobility in awhile so feeling awful

    SSB box squat
bands choked around base of... MONOLIFT! Haven't seen one of these in a minute.

    bar + bands
    115 + greens x 3
    205 + greens x 2
    225 + greens x 2
    245 + greens x 2
    265 + greens x 2
    285 + greens x 2
    305 + greens x 1
    320 + greens x 1
    340 + greens x 1

Bands were 80-90 at the top they said.

Speed pulls, off maybe 3" block
    135 x 2
    225 x 2
    315 x 1
365 x 1, 6 sets. All fast, last one butt shot up a tiny bit.

    Rack pulls
    very low pin
    135 x 5
    225 x 3
    315 x 1
    365 x 1, getting tired

higher pin, just at knee cap
    315 x 1
    365 x 1
405 faillllll hahaha. very tired, plus for some reason this is an awful height for me? not sure why but from the floor or slightly higher is fine, knee sucks and of course above the knee rips. I think this exposes a low back weakness.

Aj worked up to 700, not bad for a bodybuilder!

    Accessories
straight arm lat pull down, 3 sets of 10. learned a bit about flaring lats.

higher cable rows, upper back retraction .. 3 sets of 10

back raise, 2 sets of max pump.

Really fun day, took a long time but great to train with some homies.

    10 min mob

    Incline bench
    bar
    115 x 5
    165 x 3
    205 x 1
235 x 1, this was a really dumb jump to my old pr exactly, but it went ok
240 x 1, squeaked out a pr. Both of these lifts were very misgrooved and when they slowly got moving back toward my shoulders they went ok

    downsets:
    215 x 3 PR
195 x 7, 5 would have been a pr but seemed easy until again the last one was pushed toward my feet.

    WOD
    5 rounds:
    5 hspu
    5 du
    10 pullups
    10 du
    15 hrpu
    15 du

    time: 12:13

All pullups were easily unbroken and 3 of the 10du and 1 15 was. gonna work dus way more.

    accessory
    3 sets:
    pec deck x 12
    rope pushdowns x 10

1 set of 50 curls for elbow

Those weighted kneeling jumps look brutal mate! What's the benefit of them?

The goal of DE days is to build speed. So usually this involves a lot of box squatting against bands but jumping of any sort builds explosive power. Also, this exercise in particular will help me be brave enough to catch heavy cleans by getting my feet under me.

    Week 6 day 1 (Tuesday, Jan 14)
DE Lower / conditioning, lunch S Hill

15 min mob, honestly this should've been an hour.. stiff as a tinman after this weekend.

    power snatch + hang snatch
    bar
    95
    95
    115..forward on the hang
115 good but mobility succcckkks, can't get down
    125 forward on the hang
125 good, call it ok till mobility is up. good news is power portion feels great.

    Misfit complex
    95
    115
    135
    155
    170, pr.

just wanted to eek one out given mobility issues and forearm/wrist/grip weariness.

    WOD
    5 Rounds:
    10 pullups
    20 hrpu
    30 situps
    40 air squats

    60s rest between rounds.

    TIME: 21:45

Everything was pretty quick and nearly unbroken except situps were awful AND the RX was w/ a plate! So, big hole in my game I need to shore up.

Ramping back up, I took 6 weeks off with a leg issue.

4" deficit DL AND speed squats AND a wod after stuffing your face with pizza sounds horrible. Like I don't know how you didn't barf before finishing. Way to gut it out.

Nice Deficit pull! A 4" deficit is uncomfortable on an empty stomach, it's really gotta suck after a half a pizza lol.
