Proud new member of planet fitness :(

Moved to NJ for my wife's fancy new gig. Closet gym is Planet Fitness (less than half a mile away)--next closest gym is a solid 45 minute drive with traffic. Joined PF, and it f*****g blows. I've never seen so many bro's in one spot and I work for a University. DBs only go up to 60 pounds, half their benches are on tracks, and get free tanning with my membership. FML. Kill me now.

I've heard bad things about Planet Fitness, they discriminate against muscle heads.

Dude, free tanning? That's kind of awesome actually.

    Where in NJ?

Pretty sure they have free bagels and pizza too. They seem to be buying out older gyms and replacing them with their model.

Yeah, I guess it's free pizza once a month. Dunno about bagels. I am allergenic to wheat, though so I don't care.

Kiss your 405 bench, 535 squat and 655 deadlift goodbye...

That shithole makes my old rec center look like the baddest barbell club in the country. Get out. Get out while you still have the testosterone to fight.

Hahaha! Yeah, I am currently figuring out another plan. Good thing is I work at a University, so I can work out there a few times a week and leave PF as a thing of convenience.

Did you check out the Golds Gym in Totowa...shouldn't be too far away but not sure about traffic.

If you live in Wayne you have some more options. There is a Gold's in Paramus. A 24 hour fitness right by the garden state plaze. There is a New York Sports club in Mahwah (actually two in Mahwah). The is a Parisi gym in Hawthorne. Reps is also in Hawthorne and it's a bad ass hole in the wall. There is a retro fitness in Fair Lawn. I know I am missing some, but you definitely have options. I think there is a retro fitness in Wayne as well.

There is also a gym called Strong and Shapely in East Rutherford. Lots of Powerlifters and Bodybuilders train there. I live in Hoboken, and just down the street from me is a gym called Iron Arena owned by Jason Manenkoff who is a competive powerlifter iron-arena.com but you have more options then Planet Fitness

Thanks for the help guys. So I am actually in Pompton Lakes (north of Wayne), been here for less than a week and am not use to traffic and shit like this (I hate it). I've been googling and stuff, but it seems like everything is a 30+ minute drive. For example, I drove to Costco on Thursday last week (8.2 miles away from my new place), and it took me approximately 30 minutes, and it wasn't even rush hour. Is that just the way it is around here? Anyway, I figured any gym more than 10 miles away is probably out of the question because I don't have an hour to spend in the car each time I wanna lift. Thoughts? Or do I just need to drive like an a$$ like everyone else around here (no offense to you fine gents, of course).

deal with the drive IMO. I'm in Phx, AZ and anywhere 8.2 miles would take me 30 minutes to get to, unless it wasn't rush hour and I was taking the freeway.

Also, man up and drive faster, lol.

Tell your wife to buy you a home gym with the compensation from her fancy new gig.

You are losing 5 lbs off your total every day you set foot in there. Get out now!

Hahaha! I should give you her e-mail address...if we had the space, I think she'd go for it, but we are renting right now until we figure out where we want to settle down (I'm a criminologist with a concentration in school safety...with the stuff that went down in CT, I anticipate relocating soon).

Driving 30 mins seems like an average drive to anything if you live in a populated area. I would drop the planet fitness membership for a gym that is a little drive.
