The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Stubborn lower back

My damn lower back has been giving me trouble for months. It's always sore and tight. I have to stretch my hips, glutes, hamstrings, calves, and quads daily to get any relief. Anyone have any tips that will help give relief for longer than a day?

Lower back trouble can be caused by weak glutes, causing you to slouch when sitting.

Tried doing any glute specific exercises, like barbell hip thrusts?

I've started doing them for pretty much the same reason.

I did notice just last night that I slouch when I sit. I've been working on my overall posture in general the last year or so because sometimes I notice myself kind of "leaning forward" if that makes any sense. I haven't tried any glute specific exercises though, but I thought DL's, squats, and lunges was enough but apparently it might not be. I'll give those barbell hip thrusts a try, thank you.

Reverse Hyper has worked best for me and my clients.

Thomas, I went to youtube to check those out and then I tried it on my own. It offered quite a bit of relief, I think what I have is some tight hamstrings and a combination of weak glutes/lower back. I will continue to do them, thanks for the feedback.

Gaz, this is off topic but I clicked on the link in your signature and found those books. Are you the author? I checked them out and they actually seem pretty cool. They're also getting good reviews, and i've been looking for something new to read so theyre definitely on my radar.

P.M. if you wish to talk about your books.

I'd certainly second the reverse-hypers - we're lucky enough to have one at my gym and it does give immediate (albeit short-lived) relief. Great after a session of squats or deads.

    PM sent, btw.

I have been going through the same thing, i hit a lot of softballs, so not sure if mine is from the twisting. Its been months and months, i am going to try some reverse hypers. mine is super low in my back.
