The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    hip pain and powerlifting gear

I been having hip issues* with raw wide squats lately, my hips are taking a beating. I was wondering if wearing Inzer power pants would alleviate some of the pain. I have zero gear experience so thats why I'm asking this question.

Also, I talked with a therapist and recommended more OLY style squatting with weightlifting shoes due to my flat feet condition and now that my hips are acting up. Unfortunately, he has no knowledge on gear so he cant help me with that =/

I dont know wether to get the shoes and squat oly style or get a pair of power pants or do both.

*Hip is mostly very tight, a pain to achieve proper depth. If I overdo it, it even hurts when I walk.

    Thank you guys!

I think you need to narrow down if it's a mobility, strength, or recovery issue. There's different ways to solve each one. Does it hurt when you squat just the bar? Does it only hurt after training?

It hurts when I squat, yes. Front Squats feel fine though. If I go wide, even bodyweight squats hurt. It hurts after training yes, but its not major.

Sounds like you have some of the same flexability issues that I have. I do these before I squat and it helps a ton:

I also try to do them and other stretches every night. This has allowed me to squat a bit wider and still get proper depth without killing my hips. I am still way narrower than the rest of the guys in my crew, but things have improved some.

*Edited the link, apparently they changed the address to the link since last I viewed it.

It's probably mobility related. It's something most people have to work on multiple times a week. That link above is pretty good.

Here's a similar one from DeFranco:

if it hurts then u need to change something. Adding gear will not fix the problem.

Work on your mobility and start to progressivly narrow your squat maybe every couple of sessions.

The pain is most likely due to an immobility issue coupled with a weakness somewhere.

    Good Luck

Gear will just mask the issue. Bring your stance in. Simple fix. You dont see many guys squatting raw and wide. It tears you up.

What's the point of lifting in pain? Get the olympic shoes and bring your stance in. Life is way more important than lifting.

Either choice is good, but it comes down to how you want to compete.

If you want to keep squatting wide then it's time to get in to some real briefs and a suit to take the strain off of your hip.

If you want to keep lifting raw then it's time to go narrower.

    Simple.
