This past winter/bulk I had switched from high volume to 5/3/1 and made HUGE steady gains all winter. With cutting down for summer I want to experiment a little for the next month or two and see how it works out.

Basically I will continue 5/3/1 but only every third training session for that main lift, the 2 training sessions in between will be much higher volume and lower weight and some extra assistance work than during an actual 5/3/1 day. I'm hoping this will help put a lot more emphasis on hypertrophy back into my regime but also keeping most of the strength I gained over the winter with the heavy lifting days (5/3/1 setup) every 2 weeks or so.

What are some of your opinions? Does it make sense? Anyone ever do something similar to this and have good results?
