    Deadlift bars

    When/at what weight should someone switch from a standard barbell to a deadlift bar?

    Any recommendations for a good type/brand?

    I don't think it matters about what weight you are doing. I switched to a DL bar when I discovered that all of the meets I was competing in were using them, and the change was dramatic from the cheap olympic bar I was using.

    I wanted an Okie bar, and attempted to buy one, but did not have a good experience. I contacted EliteFTS about the Texas bars, ordered it, and it arrived in 3 days. An all-around awesome bar for pulling. Not as much whip as the former, but enough.

    5'9" 195lbs.

    2014 Goals: 365 raw bench; Triple bodyweight deadlift; 1500 meet total @ 198

    No need to wait. I never picked one up. I liked using a regular bar and then going to a meet and getting a big carry over from the dl bar.
