I am forever looking for a way to take some of the stress of my nagging shoulder/bicep tendon issue. So, I used reverse bands today for speed bench. They were odd. It almost felt like I couldn't push as hard as usual, like the bar was floating.
Anyone have any experiences with reverse bands and speed work?
I have to say I don't like or do speed work at all. I also do not like reverse bands either, other than the occasional maybe once or twice per year doing them heavy.
But, I was going to suggest trying either something like the slingshot or carpet press if you haven't. Both of those I have used heavy and rep work and make a huge difference when my shoulder is aggravated. It can be bothersome enough that I don't want to bench full-range at all to very tolerable and almost not noticeable with both of these. The slingshot might be kind of awkward too for the purpose of speed work (because it really seems like a much weaker version of a reverse band), but the carpet press I imagine would be fine. It is really just a soft 1-1.5board instead of full-range, but close enough to full-range it should be fine. Those are the only other things I can think of that might be helpful for less shoulder pain.

Huge fan of speed bench here. I've done it with reverse bands and didn't really care for it.
As odd as it sounded, it felt like the bands wanted to react slower than I did? Might have just been in my head but the whole deal felt clumsy.
I prefer to use the football bar, especially when I'm training for an equipped meet.
I always had this issue with tradional speed work. I could never stay injury free. I feel it works but does the risk out weight the rewards?

I understand everyone is different and I'll admit I do hear this often, but what injuries did you incur Scott?
I have done it for over 8 years and I have never been injured from speed bench (least as I can recall lol)
Huh that is really interesting. I never have had that
But I could definitely see how that'd hold back your ME training which wouldn't really help much at all.
