The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    gear virgin needs advice

so i want to try out power lifting gear. since money is a issue, i just want to start out with a pair of briefs, if i like it, i may buy more. but theres too much stuff to choose from and i just cant decide.

should i look for single ply or multi ply?? if i found a cheap squat suit and just wore it with the straps down, will that work the same as briefs??

It won't work the same as briefs but it'll be close enough probably.

Choosing single vs multiply is a personal choice as far as where you'd like to go with the gear. If you intend on exploring multiply I'd start off with some Inzer predator briefs

thanks for the reply Travis. well id prefer to go with single ply as its easier to learn, apparently, also its much cheaper than multi ply.

however, if i was to go for briefs only would i be better off getting single or multi ply briefs or even a single ply suit? as i have no experience or knowledge on this, so any and all advice is much appreciated!!

Do you train with any lifters that use gear?

Single ply stretches out fast. When I did single ply, I had a loose suit to use straps down in training and a second suit just for meets. Multi ply stuff lasts a lot longer.

Marcus, the other lifters i train with are raw too, why do you ask?

yea ive recently read that, about single ply stretching out... what do you think about wearing 2 ply briefs in training, since they last longer. then throwing the 1 ply suit on as the meet gets closer?

I'll just say that in my experience single ply was MUCH more difficult to learn than multiply. To get the poundages out of the gear that you need to be competitive you have to wear super tight single ply gear and I just couldn't make it work. Multiply on the other hand was much easier for me to get on, adjust and get comfortable with.

Your experience may be different. But that's what mine was. I really used to HATE shirts big time because of how difficult they were to learn. Once I dropped it for multiply I really started to enjoy equipped lifting and never looked back.

I did that for awhile. You need multi ply briefs that don't give much support. The fastest way to learn gear is to train with others that use it.

so i guess i will get a pair of loose briefs, ive got my eye on a pair of metal pro briefs, the inzer preds were too expensive with international shipping. if they go well then ill be looking at getting a shirt followed by a suit.

Marcus, unfortunately powerlifting is quite small in Ireland. there is only one other powerlifter in my county that i know of. so i have to rely on the internet, usually elitefts and this forum, i know im gonna have a ton more questions about this when i get into it, so thanks for the replies from yourself and travis.
