My family is worried about me

I've been dealing with illness this year and have dropped to 157 lbs, at 6 ft 1, and probably between 16-19% bodyfat.

My family is worried that I'm getting too thin, but I still have some belly fat.

Would it be unhealthy to diet and get down to 13-14% bodyfat at 150 lbs or something like that?

Seems like my weight has to go VERY low to lose fat.

    Would you bulk up now?

    Thanks,
    EC

First of all, are you over your illness? I'm guessing you are. But still are you now at a weight for which you desire? What are your goals? Build more muscle with lower BF? Or just get shredded at 150?

So would I Bulk up now?........ I'm not you. You are you. Tell us where you want to go.

    Nice avatar!

I'm not completely over my illness, but I can do 6-7 good sets in the gym a few times a week.

I'd like to build more muscle with lower BF.

What I don't want to do is get back to the point where I had a big fat belly that I was carrying around, or even just annoying belly fat.

So some kind of slow bulk, but slow enough that I don't get fat again.

    Thanks. Eddie rules. \m/ \m/

So I guess you would want to follow a BB routine. Slowly increase protein and calorie intake. Keeping a close eye on your gut. This of course would have to be balanced with your illness and lack of strength/energy etc......

    Good Luck.

    Cheers.

If it were my choice, I would keep leaning out until I lost all my belly fat and got over my illness. I would then be able to work out more than 3 times a week and start bulking back up

Are you sure that being in a calorie deficit is the best idea (from a recovery point of view) while you are ill?

That is probably why my family is worried, I've been low on energy and losing weight at 2 lbs per week, and losing muscle too.

A calorie surplus may help with health.

Unwanted belly fat is a problem, but going to 150 or 145 lbs puts my BMI on the dangerous side, correct?

It would be borderline underweight. Not that BMI is a reliable indicator of anything.
