The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Belial: Didnt you have the spotter assist you on this rep? I am confused as to why you still count it as a personal best?

    He touched it. He didn't lift it. It threw off my groove, which actually made the lift more difficult.

    That's 7*210lbs. I reckon I could hit 260 @160 real soon.

    Close-grip:
    315 x 1
    320 x 1 (fingertip assistance)

    DAMN that spotter! I might have had 320 but he touched the bar way too soon.

    He's on something, that's for sure. His bench didn't budge for months, and now he is throwing around 25lbs more on close grip than he could go with a standard grip a month ago.

    Oh, and in about another week, he is going to be pulling more than both of us.

    My best close grip max is actually 5 lbs better than my wide grip. Not that it matters.

    Monstar on paper you would clean up in a raw tested meet...especially considering how (not) long you have been doing pl.

    If you're not going to compete, you should at the very least do a practice meet to see how you would fare taking 9 heavy attempts on the same day....

    Woah, woah, woah!! All this talk about me and I didnt even realize it. Anyway...

    chris: My CG bench strength has always been decent. I hit 315 CG without much of a problem at all. Triceps have never been a big weakness in my bench I dont think. I am not on ANYTHING, at all. Absolutely nothing at all. Not hot man juice for me. Every pill or supplement that I take is in my journal. Thats a FACT, I have never BSed on here, and I never will. I shouldnt have to defend myself at this point. And I pulled like what 515 off of 1-2" mats? So what. I doubt I could pull more than 525-535 from the floor. Last time I checked B was at 635 and youre at what 600+? I have a feeling I wont even hit 600 until towards the end of 2003. Thats my honest opinion. Ill test my deadlift max again in a couple of weeks---so well see how that goes.

    Belial: No hot man juice for me! LOL. Natural, always have been, always will be. Aside from one day on glucophage, which made me feel like sh*t.

    Latty: Exactly my point. Yeah, when I start the man joose, Ill letcha know---I am completely offended to be honest.

    Santiago: I dont know, not anytime soon thats for sure. I am not into competition for some reason. I know that my squat is 100% parallel, but dont you have to completely touch the bar to your chest with bench, and hold it for a second? I lower the bar about 3/4-1" off of my chest, with no pause at all. Squats I know I hit parallel, deadlifts obviously from the floor, etc.

    With that being said,

    325 x 1

    chalk only.

    My bench peaked at 245. For almost 6 weeks or so after that I was frozen at 225. I still believe it was a mental block. I took a week and a day off, each day consuming 8000+ calories. When I got back on a bench I hit 260 very slowly.

    The best I have done since is off 3 boards (that's 4.5" off my chest) and it was 295. Just guesstimating, that leaves benching from my chest around 270?

    My squats and deadlifts have exploded under these same conditions, but I think I have a better natural build for those lifts. So I think really it's a matter of what your body is able to do. I am just not a good bencher. In the 7+ weeks I've been on my diet, these were my gains:

    Bench: 245->260
    Squat: 315->420
    Dead: 405->465
