The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Finally passed 70 on db militaries :)

about a year ago, a guy I knew at the gym militaried the 70 lbs. db's. The fact that I was only doing the 40's for a few reps at the time made this seem all the more amazing to me, and one of my goals that I haven't really told anyone about was to actually get to the 70's. I did it today finally, getting the 72 lbs. db's for 7 clean reps. I LOVE that feeling, not reaching a short term goal, but a long-term one you have to really work and work at. Sometimes you even take a step backwards along the way, but you keep cracking and finally you get what you were after. :-D

Good job at attaining your goal. There is a guy at my gym that does 100s. Of course his shoulders are as big as my head. I use 75s but I weigh more than 40 pounds more than you.

Good job man, I'm trying to get there still use 65's, but that's whole lot better than what I used to do, which was like 50's.
"It is often said, mainly by the "no-contests", that although there is no positive evidence for the existence of God, nor is there evidence against his existence. So it is best to keep an open mind and be agnostic. At first sight that seems an unassailable position, at least in the weak sense of Pascal's wager. But on second thought it seems a cop-out, because the same could be said of Father Christmas and tooth fairies. There may be fairies at the bottom of the garden. There is no evidence for it, but you can't prove that there aren't any, so shouldn't we be agnostic with respect to fairies?"

    Richard Dawkins

"Out of all of the sects in the world, we notice an uncanny coincidence: the overwhelming majority just happen to choose the one that their parents belong to. Not the sect that has the best evidence in its favour, the best miracles, the best moral code, the best cathedral, the best stained glass, the best music: when it comes to choosing from the smorgasbord of available religions, their potential virtues seem to count for nothing, compared to the matter of heredity. This is an unmistakable fact; nobody could seriously deny it. Yet people with full knowledge of the arbitrary nature of this heredity, somehow manage to go on believing in their religion, often with such fanaticism that they are prepared to murder people who follow a different one."

    Richard Dawkins

Next shoulder day I'll go in and use the 110's just to spite all of you. No doubt, my barely healed biceps tendon will get strained again and I'll be back to sub-300 bench pressing for the next few months, but I'll sit there all smug in my jackassness.

Good job, accipiter. Always nice when you're suddenly doing what you once thought impossible. Just think what you'll be surprising yourself with two years from now.

dickhead. (I'd say I'd do 115s just to spite you, but I did 120s on incline the other day and they were dam* heavy, only 4-6 reps, I don't see it on Military. I guess I'll just shut up)

Congrats, Accipiter! I'm still using 40's and since my gym doesn't have 45s, I'll wait a few more weeks to give 50s a try

I actually haven't been training shoulders specifically lately, but normally just overhead presses with the barbell; I like the db press, but only do it when I'm trying to hit my shoulders hard.

awesome feat Accipiter you sticked with it and pulled through

allthough those times when injury and self reasurance begin to take a toll on you, it can get really hard.

currently ive been alittle bit in a jam with deadlifts and my lower back; also bench press effecting my shoulders, hopefully it smooths over as it did for you when you achieved what you were seeking.

goes to show how hard work and dedication can be very rewarding.
