Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    lifting straps or gloves?

I have the professional gloves I bought for 30 bucks by Harbinger that have a strap around the wrist.

Should I get a set of lifting straps instead ?? The gloves seem to hurt my fingers a LOT whenever lifting a bar standing up (weight stress is on the fingers, and that's exactly where the leather for the glove ends.. hurts like a bitch at 200+lb.).

unless you need your hands pretty or protected for some reason, lose the gloves and skip the straps

your forearms will thank you for it, and calluses are cool. Kinda like Dead Treads and the little red mark you get at the base of your neck when you do heavy BTN military presses.

There's nothing wrong with gloves. They're fine for any athlete. Hey, gloves are fine by me.

Wrist wraps ain't bad, they do improve stability in presses. But gloves.... Use chalk if you want grip. And if you want to keep your hands pretty, use lotion and a pumice stone.

look dude, all kidding aside, if you feel like the gloves help you, then go nuts. Wear 'em. Some people will mock you and make insinuations about your masculinity, but forget them. It's just cool that you're lifting, regardless of whether you wear gloves or a belt, or use straps, or wear spandex boots or WHATEVER.

Bottom line: You said they were hurting your fingers on heavy lifts.

My recommendation: Don't wear them for heavy lifts.

Should you get straps for 200+ heavy lifts? (I'm assuming you mean things like deadlifts, etc?) I'd say no. Lift raw if you can and your forearms/grip will improve.

I've been using wrist straps on pressing movements (bench press, shoulder press, militaries) for a few weeks because my wrists were hurting on these movements and they helped a lot, but I don't use them for anything else. What probably helped too was going to a low volume routine and doing all the presses in the same day.

If you feel like you need them then use them, and don't pay much attention to what everybody else think.

a lot of people have bad form on presses, allowing their wrists to flop back and essentially letting the weight bend their wrist back.

    This is bad.

you want to keep your wrist pretty straight and let the angle of force be down along your forearm rather than behind it -- this may help ease the pain in some cases
