The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Hereditary bad knees and glucosamine

In my last post I mention how I just started squats and I could not bend my knees as low I wanted to due to stiffness and pain. To try to obtain for good form. I was told to check out Glucosamine because it is known for helping out joints. I personally found alot of supportive research out there about it, so I asume it does the trick. When I went home I realized we allready had Glucosamine in the house. My family has bad knees Hereditary a couple have had surgury I was told to avoid these types of excercise because I am just gonna make it harder for me in the future. Should I continue and get my form down and take glucosamine gradully or avoid them all. Im not trying to have surgury when im older like some of my family members.

My girlfriend takes glucosamine and chondroiton (sp?) and it has helped her immensely. She also has hereditarily bad knees.

I would say to try out the glucosamine and see if that helps you. If not, don't force yourself to do squats if you are experiencing joint pain. By the way, I have had ACL surgery on my left knee and I squat without any problems so surgery isn't the end of the world (although, I would recommend avoiding it if at all possible).

I am dependant on glucosamine becasue I have a specific condition in my right knee that wears down cartilege(sp)

the squat has been the best exercise thus far

I accredit it for rehabbing my knee to the point it is now

some people have to take glucosamine for a long time the usual recommendation is try it for 2 months

I stopped once for 2 months and didn't notice any problems until the end of the 2 months and then it took about 6 weeks to kick back in

I have never heard that, but I would be interested in seeing where you read that. Also, make sure that you are taking the proper dose at your body weight. If you're a bigger guy, you'll need to take more.
