    Exercise Form

I'm primarily concerned with gaining strength....on many of my exercises, take for example, the leg press, I allow the weight to come down fairly slowly, pause for a second, and then explode the weight up as fast as I can, and I guess it kind of looks herky jerky. As a result of this, a guy at the gym told me to stop doing that, and to keep even pace between the concentric, and eccentric parts of the lift, because the muscles are worked the best like that. Is this true? Is tempo really important? What do you all think?
