The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Come on...girls shouldn't work out hard anyway. All they should do is tone. A good girl should know that she should train her inner chest only so that it pulls her cleavage nice and tight, and maybe do some glute/ham raises for a nice shapely butt. Then basically the rest of the time should be spent on a treadmill or an ellyptical trainer, wrapped in a sweat suit or saran wrap.

women have lower muscle mass but also a much lower avg weight than men. They can do 'em, but they must train to perform them.

Consider some overage joe from the street. THink he can do a pull up? doubt it. I really could maybe do 1 (if i was luck) 3 years ago.

And most women are discourage from athletics growing up and pushed towards waifness and starvation. THink they do any pull ups? Think about the equivalent skinny ass man. same thing

And women can be smaller yet strong, very feminine, and highly attractive. They can also be larger, more muscular (of course staying away from the AAS) very feminine, and highly attractive. I dont think this ever filters down to the teenage girls- ie playing sports is allright for the) but they do see and hear that starvation and waifness will give them what they want

Some of the hottest girls at my school are on the soccer team. Some of them have muscular legs, but very shapely, sexy looking stems, with well defined calves and hamstrings that don't look large, just worked, fit, and healthy. I suppose it could be from all the running, and kicking, but not from intense weightlifting. Personally, I would tell girls to lift for strength, like low repss, as heavy as they can go, to make certain they are strong and quick in case of an attacker etc. Agree/Disagree?

I can do real pushups got to do them by working on it, that's all. Graduated to knuckle pushups on a rug they hurt but wow, love to do them. I am talking about real, full pushups where your chin touches the floor and your back is straight. I have seen folks do the most pathetic things and call them pushups, but they have no clue. I know females that can chin but they all weigh under 150 and are tight like runners (not that kind of tight get your mind out of the gutter) I have yet to do a chin but all it takes is work... I'd rather work on my pushups and do finger tip and wrist pushups.

I know a girl who can do a load of pushups and chinups, who also (:O) plays "soccer" (seriously thats such a stupid name, I dont like football, but it should at least have its proper name...).
I reckon the reason all the female football players can do them is that:
    a) they are genetically better at sports than most other girls, so take up football
    b) they take up football, and thats how they get like that
    or most likely
    c) a mixture of both

Another strange thing about female football in the UK is that (from my experience), homosexuality is rampant at all levels of the sport What does that mean? That wasn't rhetorical, im being lazy.

I used to be able to do about 8 chinups untrained, which was actually one of the main reasons i started weight training. I noticed i was ahead of a lot of people and thought: hmm, I wanna get a lot stronger.

I know a girl who can do over 60 pushups in 60 seconds.
I know another who is currently training to do 10 pullups in a row.

I would guess that the average girl can do at least one pushup, but no pullups.

I don't think most girls try to be strong. They go into pulls/pushups with the wrong attitude, and dont' do them much. Remember the first time you tried pushups? A lot of people have trouble, but its the fact that guys tend to keep doing them while girls take the half pushup and real light weight route. So in turn getting more efficient, while most girls, well dont' do them.

I know plenty of women, including my wife and a lot of the women when I was in the Army, who could do plenty of pushups with good form. Pullups seem to be a lot harder for women, though. For some reason, a lot of women seem to have equal or better ab strength and endurance than most guys. The military standards for both men and women are virtually the same for situps.

There's a firefighter at my gym who cranks out pullups better than most guys. Also, every girl at hapkido can do pushups on knuckles. Some of them can do it on finger tips and even the back of their hands!

I think pullups are harder for both men and women.
The difference is most guys can do a bunch of pushups,
    and women can't.

When I was 50 pounds overweight, I could still do 40+
pushups, but zero pullups. So it's not surprising that
women, most of whom can't do more than a couple of
    pushups, can't do any pullups.

Pushups involve lifting only part of your weight, pullups
require lifting all of your weight.

I can do pushups no problem...haven`t tried to max reps on them though, so I can`t tell you how many...certainly more than 20 though.

Pull ups and chins...now that`s another story. A month ago (the last time I tried to do a neutral grip chin), I was able to do two...with rather sorry ass form. Someday I aim to do better.

I gotta wonder if the reason women struggle so much with chins/pullups has to do with
    1) Obviously, less endogenous upper body strength as a result of being a chic.
    2) lower center of gravity from greater body mass in hips/butt.

I dunno. There`s a chick in my gym who does sets of 10. I`m so jealous I could spit.
Women who look at men like chests and biceps. Women who touch men like asses. Start squatting.

Pardon my sexism, but it's totally hot when a woman cranks out pullups.

What's funny is that there are some girl climbers who can, and other female climbers who can't, but it doesn't have that much correlation with climbing skill.

I think a big reason for the lack of pullups is that most women simply don't ever work towards it, climbers perhaps being an exception.

It's great that you can do 2 at body weight. That woman who does sets of ten, that's damn impressive.

I don't think center of gravity has anything to do with pullups. You are pulling the same weight up regardless, and because you are pulling yourself up vertically, COG doesn't matter.
