The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Well technically, if you were on a smith both reps were assisted.

Haha...sorry bro...I am just waging a personal war against the contraption to spite others.

I would be much more proud of 275 free than a 3 plate smith press to be honest with you. Keep up the good work.

Hehe---on the Smith-machine the bar weighs zero so I am assuming that you had 315 loaded in plates. That comes out to three 45s on each side + two 10s on each side + one 2.5 on each side, not just the normal three 45s like it is with a barbell, because that only comes out to 270 lbs.

Don't listen to twinkie boy and the other detractors. Who cares if it was "really" 315 or not as compared to freeweight.

Bottom line: You hit a new personal best. Congrats.

Nice job! In two weeks, go for 285 on the flat bench with someone spotting you and cheering you on. I would bet that you'll make it, too!

If the bar weighed nothing, it would not drop to the bottom of the rack when it had no weight on it. Of course the bar weighs something.

    Great job man.

...and stick with those free weights!

Nice. I was stuck at 275 for a while. 315 was like a mental thing for me. Getting under 315 on the smith helped me work through it. Good work. You'll be throwing up 315 on the freeweights in no time.

thannx guys..i was reading a old thread the other day in competirors area that i think spawn strated about pressing bwx2 and im thinking thatd be a hell of a goal. I do love the free weights and thats what i normally use so any "real" pb,s im shooting for that way. Im actually gonna start more db presses cuz i want bigger boobs..lol

Great Job I can relate to you man. I just left the smith machine for good. 6 45s is 270 on smith 315 on free. I have been doing 300 on the smith for about 4 or 5 reps. I am going to get real serious with the free bench now I have also made great improvements I am now at 2 reps at 295 on free weights with a spotter on one of my first free weight days in a while since i left the smith machine. My goal and it will happen soon the way I seem to be getting stronger is 315 on free. For some reason that feels so much better.. 6 Plates on free bench.
Here is my little advice if you have not yet. Incline and Decline dumbell press are a miracle I have been doing them for maybe a month now and I beleive this will help your improve your bench in no time I have seen a differnce in my chest size and my lifts. I love them now when before these were exercises i all ways avoided.

"the bar weighs nothing on smith"

    wtf...

its heavier than a free one cuz its got the mechanism to let it roll over the bars up and down too.

    i dont use it btw

There are a few different types of smith machines, with bars having different weights, in my experience.
