The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

I've been feeling lousy today. Sinuses or something are killing me. Diet suffered a little today because of it.

Preworkout: cup of yogurt and protein shake
Postworkout: sweettarts, another protein shake and weightgainer shake
Meal 1: super chopburger, a big hoggie
Meal 2: 2 turkey sandwiches on whole wheat, Nutrageous candybar
Meal 3: chicken breast with sweetpotato
Meal 4: an apple, hehe, with a protein bar
Meal 5: 3 eggs, 2 pieces of WW toast, bowl of oatmeal
Meal 6: weightgainer shake before bed and a banana

I still don't think this is enough but I'm working on it.

Yeah, I was gonna say that you can probably afford to eat a little more than I can. Hope it works out for you. Here's a novel idea for you...perhaps your leg workout felt eaisier because you're getting stronger? Looks like I am going to be prying for a while. Hope you feel better foo'

BB: Yeah, its just getting back into the swing of it. I've got the stuff, just need to apply it. I'm a hardgainer so expect to see lots of weightgainer. I need to order some XXL. Its a drink I used to pick up. 1100 calories in 32oz. Good stuff. 50-60g. protein.

ectx: LOL, yeah it might be the strength. I take it in spurts so I guess I really wasn't expecting it. Hehe, maybe I'll let some of my diet slip your way on occassions.

Good call. I'm definitely doing it after my failed leg workout yesterday. I'm not feeling anything in my legs.

    11/8 shoulders day 194lbs.

I'm pissed. I thought I did a fairly good leg workout yesterday. WRONG!! Unless I have DOM's tomorrow or the next day. My legs ain't feeling nothing but ready to go again. Hopefully I won't eat my words today but I thought I had a decent workout. Especially for not sleeping any today and waking up with both nostrils of my nose bleeding. Yeah it was a bad night.

    Arnold press
    55x6
    70x6
These are basically a warmup set for my shoulder presses

    Seated DB press
    95x5
    85x7
I hate trying to get these DB's up into posittion. I have to get more pumped to get these up than I do just doing the presses.

CG Upright Rows SS w/ Smith Machine shrugs
    165x6 SS w/ 180x10
    155x8 SS w/ 230x10
135x10 (done really slow, nice negatives) SS w/ 230x10

    High Pulls
    135x5
    185x6
    225x4
185 was enough and pulled pretty high but 225 was a bear. I probably should have just done 195 or 205 but no I had to be a bad ass. hehe

    Jerk Press
    135x6
    155x6
    175x5
Good increase here. I haven't done these in a while. Even though they require some leg work I like the explosive work here.

    Free Motion Cable Press
    150x5 (full stack)
    120x8
I like doing these. The motion is different.

Shrugs done in calf raise machine
    80x10
    100x10
120x10 (form started falling here but still a good set)

reverse cable flyes SS w/ bent over cable flyes
    50x10 SS w/ 30x10
    50x10 SS w/ 20x10
    40x10 SS w/ 20x10

    shoulder press machine drop set
200x5 (full stack, need a couple extra pounds)
    150x5
    120x4
    90x5
    50x8

Standing lateral raises SS w/ DB shrugs
    20x10 with 3" hold at top SS w/ 105x10
    20x10 with 3" hold SS w/ 110x8

    DB shrug dropset
    70x10
    60x10
    55x10
    50x10
    45x10

    Breathing Squats
    165x20
I needed to do something for my legs. I wonder if I'll feel these?

Before you even begin to harp on me about overtraining you should know that higher volume training works better for me. I trained with a guy for while and we did less and I didn't make near the gains I do now and I was eating better then with the same amount of sleep. So I think it works for me, so bloody well piss off. hehe

Is that a regular occurance?? Is it due to your bout of Sinus? Allergies?

You know looking at it, it really does seem like too much. If I'm doing that much then I don't think my intensity level is high enough. If I'm training the way I should be I shouldn't be physically able to do that much. I need to work on my shoulder routine.

Fran: Fall and spring are terrible times for me. During these times this does become a regular occurence. I've been to the doctor and he said it was an swollen blood vessel that liked to bust every so often. Certain things can really aggervate it. The nose bleeds usually don't last too long but more of just an annoyance.

I have no idea. You sit down in the seat and make an "L" with your body and do calf raises. Its just a different angle. I don't think its nearly as effective as standing, but that and the normal seated calf raise are side-by-side so I superset them.

Well I haven't updated this with my diet because it has royally sucked the big one. I've got sinus trouble or something so the bed has been my friend the past couple of days. Good things its the weekend or work would have needed somebody to cover for me.

Its driving me crazy because the better I eat the better i feel but I'm having a hard time getting up to get in the kitchen. Feeling better today though so I should be back on track. Seems like just once you get things situated, something jumps in and throws you all off.

You're kidding right? Of course you'll feel these. I think they're best done though at the end of your leg day though...kind of like a "you think you're fried yet...bwahahaha...now squat". Don't quote me on that, though. I'm usually about to fall over after doing these. Do you do them ATF? Just curious.

Get better...and maybe you can get an escort to ummm, go and get you food. Yeah. That'll work. Strictly for the food.

Sadly enough, I really didn't feel those the next day, but oh did I feel them at the time. My legs never got sore from the workout the day before those either. I don't know what's up. I always do any squats I do, ATF. Its only after I get above 225 that I start going for just competition depth. I probably bounce out of it more than I should but if I'm going for 20 reps I kind of start off pretty fast.

Hehe, I definitely need a nice escort to go get me food and to feed me between video game levels while I'm wrapped up on the couch. But umm, yeah, hehe, strictly for food... lol

HomeYield, do you like living in Charlotte?

And if I might ask, how old are you?

I might have to job hunt here very soon and I'm serioulsy considering Charlotte as a place I wouldn't mind relocating if it comes to that. I'd prefer Columbia first, Greenville second, then Charlotte.

Breathing Squats or Exhaustion Squats are ace for the quads. I usually stick a 1" board under the heels of my feet and do them. I also was wondering about you shrugs in the standing calve maching. How well does that work compared to regular BB shrugs?

BB: I like Charlotte pretty good. I have some family here so I'm sticking around for awhile. Its a nice place. Its close enough to plenty of things to do. Plenty of things to do around here too.

I'm 22. Been living in Charlotte since 17. This is where I went to school. Probably be here for a couple more years.

Charlotte's a nice place to work. Traffic really isn't the worst and parking around here ain't too bad. I'm thinking about moving to Rock Hill and commuting to Charlotte. With my work schedule traffic won't be a big deal for me.

Let me know if you ever come up and we'll try and get together.

MonStar: I haven't yet. I've been reading and probably will at some point but that's still a couple years off. I'm just getting serious with my diet and training picking up so I don't think I've raeched the point where I've plateaued. I'm toying with the idea but I've got to do some more reading.

GG: I may have to try adding the board underneath to do squats. When I was first learning I had to put the board underneath because I couldn't seem to get the depth for a full squat without it. That really helped my quads then, maybe its time to try that again.

The calf machine shrugs is just something different. I like it because you can't jerk with your arms to get momentum to pull the bar up. You can put your arms wherever and just shrug. It feels about the same. The one reasone I started doing them was because I wanted to superset seated machine shoulder presses with shrugs and it just happened to be close so I figure I'd give it a shot.

Ahhhhhh SH*****TTTTTTTT. Man that sucks. I have a lot of problems with my legs and have had multiple ligament and muscle tears so I totally sympathize with you. Hopefully it wasn't that severe. Good thing is that it's only one muscle. BTW, from those pics you posted earlier, I'd hardly call those chicken legs. Ice that b*tch up and go see a doctor.
