The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Very curious.

You take a picture of yourself and find that you have a bodypart that is not up to par with the rest of your body.

You start a diet to make gains, you train and you add mass.
    Sounds simple?
You take another picture and say you added 20 pounds.

Now your lagging part is bigger, but so is everything else. You never really accomplished anything but get bigger. (which is great) But you want to bring up that lagging bodypart!

What can you do if anything, or do genetics just say, OK I will let muscles grow but only in proportion to what you have now?

Genetics may dictate the shape of a muscle, but it doesn't dictate proportion between bodyparts to THAT degree. If you worked only your biceps, and gained 20lbs of lean mass, you'd probably have gained a lil' bit of muscle everywhere, but your biceps will have gained MORE mass in relation to the rest of your body. Now, you can't really change the fact you have a funny lump on the top of your biceps, but you can change the size of your bis in relation to your body.

Try a specialization routine for 4-6 weeks for that bodypart, while reducing the intensity and volume for the rest of the body.Specialization routines work best for the larger bodyparts like quads or lats.Specializing on triceps or forearms is largely a waste of time.

Perform isolation exercises for the lagging part, that is what will make the most difference. The problem will never be 100% corrected, though.

The only thing I could see working is doing a low intensity full body routine once a week, and hitting the lagging part full intensity every 4 or 5 days. Probably depending on the bodypart, but it might take 2 to 3 months or more.

yeah, this is probably a long term thing....I'm locked in mortal combat with my chest and it's still a bit behind, and it's been about 3 months. probably got a couple more months before it's where I want it to be.

    Specialization.

I wouldn't bother unless you are already damn close to as big as you want to be.
