The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Inner vs. Outer biceps

I could be mis-percieving this, but it has always seemed to me that my biceps developed more to the inside than the outside.

Sitting like I am in my avatar pic, there is more bicep leaning into my ribs, than is pushing to the outside.

I believe I remember reading one time, that the inner and outer portions of the bicep respond like this: to train outer biceps, hold a narrow grip, and to train inner biceps, hold a wider grip.

I have pretty much tried it all, wide, narrow, straight bar, ez-curl bar....I'm starting to write it off to genetics.

Anyone have any input on getting more mass into the outer portion of the biceps?

Do hammer curls to thicken up the brachialis.

That's about as close to "outer" bicep as you'll get.

Arnold wrote in his books to vary grip width, the way you said. Most people on this site believe the muscle is going to grow according to genetics. I am in the middle. In this instance I probably think genetics too. But I am no expert. Try it though.

Say what you will Arnold has accomplished more then you. I believe in life got to give credit. i.e. Your boss is an a$$hole, he still managed to work his was above you. Please spare me a million stories on that one. I think things have changed since he wrote his books, but I wouldn't just blow him off. Like I said in this case I am not to sure.

I would say to work hard on the triceps instead. This will develop the appearance of a larger outer arm though in reality it does not develop the biceps at all.

I think your arms look perfectly normal in the avatar.
Now in pain, only working out the walking sticks.
