The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

I want your advice my deadlift PRs decided to take a break

I have been gaining a PR every week for the last 5 until yesterday. Well I may have got a little stronger but I did not lift what I wanted to. 455X1 is my current best. Yesterday went like this 405X5, 475X1 miss, 465X1 miss!!! I am sure if I tried 465 first I would have gotten it and I am sure I would of pulled at least 455 again. My week point is from above the knee to lock out. I tend on doing rack pulls from that hight

Can some one post advice or techniques to improve your deadlift. Or to break threw your sticking points. How long should I do rack pulls before I go to the floor again? I gues one week is not gonna cut it since I didnt lock out this week.
Oh and I keep chipping up my shins every monday I have a new bloody scar to bitch about. I had a long sock idea but cant seem to keep them with me, or both pairs together when I need them.

You're deadlifting every week? Maybe take a break from them. Just an extra week. Some people go only every other week.

Also, how are your other lifts progressing? Squats, other lower back exercises, etc?

Speed? Are you slowing down off the bottom? A good deadlift is an explosive deadlift.

Quit yer whinin' about the marking. Wear your deadtreads with pride, son!
-Does the gashing occur on the way up or down? Find out where you're driving it in to your shins, and adjust if you feel you have to.

Bump on Borris...sometimes it's good to get away from DLing for a short cycle then come back to the lift.

Also, if you're looking to improve your deadlift, have you thought about improving other lifts that improve components of the deadlift? Stuff like zercher squats, good morning, front squats, hypers, reverse hypers or rack pulls, etc etc (ala Westside for example).

How about doing mini-cycles (2-3 weeks) of these different exercises then go back to your deadlift to see where you progress?

    Just a thought!

    Good luck

I'd do a squat cycle, with speed pulls done afterwards so you don't forget your form. Rack pulls are silly unless done for grip, IMO. If you like to pull heavy every week, you can switch to the style you're weaker at.

thanks all advice will be used

But I dont se how rack pulls are useless. This is how I se it. Start were your sticking point is but do more than you can lift from the floor. Since you are starting halfway up the energy you save will go in to your lockout. Then when you go back to the floor it should be easier on your sticking point because you practiced heavier.

It's what Ed Coan does, I made a post about it, I'll try to find and bump it. Pretty much 2 weeks of 8s, 2 weeks 5's, 2 weeks 3's, one week double, then you max.

This was my first one. Prior to this I had a competition max of 350 and a gym max of 405.

    Week 1. 275x8x2
    2. 300x8x2
    3.325x5x2
    4.345x5x2
    5.365x3x2
(In between weeks 5 and 6 I hit a 20 lb deadlift pr, which had been stuck for months )
    6. 385x3x2
    7. 405x2x2
(another 20 lb dead pr inbetween these 2 weeks)
    8. 425 x1 (I then proceeded to hit 455 and 475, they were on the brink of legal, but smoked regardless. )

I copied and pasted from the post.
