The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    troubles waking up

Okay I have a really really really hard time getting up in the morning. Unless I can just sleep in and wake up when I get up its almost impossible. Sometimes I'll hit snooze for like 2hrs, I have missed classes because of this. And I was wondering if anyone had any tips or ideas to help me get up. Once I get going I am okay its just the intial get up and get moving. I get into the mindset just 7 more mins won't matter. And then it turns into an hr later.............its really frustrating. Thanks in advance.

When I was in the army I had the same problem. I bought 3 alarm clocks. Two electric ones and a windup one. Two would be set for the same time and the other is across the room for like 3 mins later. That helped me alot. That and knowing my life would be hell if I was late. You could also try getting a coffee pot that makes coffee for you at the same time every morning. Or a cd player alarm clock that would play somthing realy god aweful. I had a roomate one time that woke up to "bad to the bone" every morning. You cannot sleep through that. Trust me you just want it to stop. Ok hope that helps.

Put the alarm on really loud across the room so you are forced to get up, even if you just want to turn it off.

    Y2A has a good idea - that's what i do.

of course somtimes i jsut hit snooze and go back to bed for a bit, but you know..whatever.

anyways..next tiem you don't have to go to wake up early for any reason, see how many hours you naturally sleep. (ie take not of what time you went to sleep, and what time you woke up)

then use that number of hours to adjust when you have to go to sleep in order to wake up for school.

no matter how early i go to bed, for however long a period of time, my sleep schedule never got adjusted. I have alot of difficulty going to sleep before 12, but i prefer 3am. I am loathe to get up before 11am also, even if i went to bed at 9pm the previous night. My advide: move to west coast. Biorhythms dont change so easy.

eh..i know the feeling - my natural rhythm is from 6am to about 11am. definitely need less sleep when i'm on my normal sleep pattern...unfortunately i hold a 9-5. so what i need to do is get to bed at like 9:30 pm to wake up on time. this ritual involves heavy exercise, sleep aids, and reading. and counting.

god help me when i've had 3 or 4 days off to adjust back to my specific rhythm.

i wonder if it's cuz i was born in India?

devise a reward system for yourself for getting up on time...

    Y2As idea is also good

as an extreme option, you may want to try joining the armed forces

I used to be quite the slugabed, but after I was in the army I have NO problem bouncing out of bed the moment I hear the alarm... not to say I NEVER use the snooze but if i know I HAVE to get up, then I do. No question.

thanks for all the ideas. I have tried the music thing but i just end up shutting off my stereo when it starts and then go back to bed and wait for my alarm to wake me up. My alarm has the ability to be set for 2 diff times so i usually set it one for ex. 8:00am and the other 8:01am but that doesn't help. Now that I got a better stereo I'll give it a shot again........its jus that i am restricted in the size of my room so that everything is real close even across the room cause my bed is so large. like i can reach my alarm from my bed even though they are on different sides. Can anyone suggest some 'good' tunes to wake up to? Again thanks for the suggestions

    whatever kind works.

i.e. "If I get up on time tomorrow morning, that means I <get reward>"
where <get reward> is some kind of thing you can reward yourself with, be it a food item, activity, etc, etc. etc.

ideally the reward should take place ASAP after the successful getting-up

Melatonin really helps me be able to get up when the alarm goes off in the morning. I just feel more alert. Good stuff.

could it be due to large amounts of food consumed before bed?

i seem to be the most dead tired when i have worked out the night before, come home, had my postworkout shake, and then a decent sized meal right before bed. next morning, i am so frickin tired.

now working out is probably a factor, but this is still happening if i get 10 hrs of sleep.

Put alarm clock across the room. Next to it put a glass of water and some no-doz. When you get up to turn the alarm off, pop the no-doz and go lay back down in about 30mins you'll feel like your just waking up(that feeling after sleeping as long as you want). In extreme cases maybe swith the glass of water and no-doz with glass pipe and some crack.
