    Bench Strength Curiosity

I've heard that the average man on the street can bench press 80% of his bodyweight. Seems a litle low to me, but that's what I've heard anyways.

I think it's a given folks here work more on average than the average guy. So by that logic I'm wondering just how much more WBB members bench press on average.

What's your bodyweight and what do you bench press for a 1RM?

Yes, I know squatting and DL's etc are also a major gauge of someone's strength, but this is always the standard question, "hey man how much do you bench press?"

According to the chart on www.criticalbench.com that'd put you around 220ish for a 1rm.

In my opinion, the best way to gauge your 1RM is to take a really heavy weight you can only lift once, and lift it.

Actually, I can rep 315 10x and that puts me at 410 for my max according to the chart. I've gotten 405 and just missed 410 last time I maxxed so it was pretty close for me.

That's insane. I have a horrible incline. I can't lift ****. Any ideas (besides taking it slow) on how to help with that?

I treat the incline just like tha flat bench. use a bench press program to up your incline

    Jesus. H. Christ. Damn.

    Last I maxed I weighed 150 and did 215. I'm about 155 now and I'd imagine I could do 225-230.

240-245 pounds, 385 bench. Should be more, but I've been injury plagued for the last year.

When one hangs around internet forums for long enough one starts to feel like if it's normal that everyone benches 400 pounds, untill then you start to figure something must be wrong.

I personally have a weak bench (no point in lying). I've never tried to see my max, but generally I only use 135lbs (one plate per side). It's atrocious

I just started out, so I'm not really where I want to be, but I weigh 155 and my 1RM = 185.
