The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

How do u get better @ chin ups and dips?

Im having a small problem mainly with chin ups

I JUST CANT DO VERY MANY

im dead half way through set 2,

I do 3 sets of 6 and my grip has to get closer each time otherwise i cant pull myself up.
Is there any tactic to blast my biceps and lats into mega serious pulling mode?

I heard something with dips to increase your reps, was to do 40 in however many sets it took you as long as you got there.
And then organise it properly into sets and use weights and so forth...

What do u guys and gals think?

    dips i can do 2x6 and now a 3rd set of 4-5!!

negatives- place a lot of emphasis on the negative movement on the exercise.

dips - go down really slowly
pull-ups - go down really slowly

(at least that's what i believe)

    static holds-

dips- at the bottom of the dip hold that position as long as you can

pull-ups - hold yourself up as long as you can

Should i just go into a static hold when i reach failure?
or should i do 3x static holds,
    or do 3x6 + 3x static holds?

Just add weight to your first set, eventually you will be able to do 3 sets of 10 with no weight.

When I started dips and chins, I weighed 16 lbs more than I do now. Yeah, it's easier with less weight.

I get more strength gains by adding weight instead of trying to go for extra reps. So, just do weighted chins and dips....after awhile, when you go to nonweighted chins and dips, you should be able to do a crapload no problem.
I am cool beyond all natural explanation.

As far as chins go I just did 2-3 reps until got to a set amount. Was 50 then lowered it 21+. Also when first started doing them first set was wide next one was narrower. Three sets of 6 isn't bad. If you can do that I am a little surprised you can't do more on you first set.

I agree add weight. I personally would do that and not worry about 3 "good sets".

I think you should add some weight for your first set. Even if you manage 6 thats great. Take a rest then try another set for as many as you can do with the weight. Eventually the reps will start going up and then you can move up in weight also. I found gains in this exercise to be slow. I started doing 2 sets of 6-8 about 4 months ago and am only at 2 sets with a 30lb weight now. Its a lot harder to progress in these IMO.

I might try just doing 2 sets of sternum chins and getting about 10-15reps total. Since these are more lat focused.
i could always do curls after (1st time in ages!)

As a further question, just how low do you lower yourselves when doing chins, do you go down till your arms are completely vertical, or just so your arms are parallel to the floor???
