The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    HST Negatives

I've recently started HST, I've been reading everyones comments on it and 90% of it is positive. But I have one question, I train alone so it would be impractical of me to do the 2 weeks of negatives, is not doing these going to hamper my progress much?

I know most of you are probably sick of answering HST threads but your input would be greatly appreciated.

I'm on my second week of 15's, bloodly hell its hard work, I'm not used to doing that many reps and the last 3 are a killer! but after 3.5 years of bodypart splits and going to complete failure all the time this is just a breath of fresh air, I just hope I get good results so I can stick with it.

    Yep, you're right

Nothing with HST is set in stone mate, if you can't do negatives, then don't do them. If you read the HST site properly, then you would know that it's ok to just repeat your 5RM instead of doing negatives.

I haven't done it yet, I think I'll spend the 2 weeks crying in bed because I can't do my favorite thing

from what I've read and what others have told me, the negs are one of the most important parts of HST

if you lift alone, perhaps change the exercises you use or find cheats to help you so you can do negs that hit the different bodyparts?

or if you work out at home or something, maybe get some day passes to a local gym so you can use machines/get spots for negs?

Nothing in HST is set in stone, as others have said, but I think you may be shortchanging yourself not doing negs.

If you can't do negs, just repeat the 5's with the drop sets. I've found that the 5's with drop sets worked much better then negs, but that's just me.
"It is often said, mainly by the "no-contests", that although there is no positive evidence for the existence of God, nor is there evidence against his existence. So it is best to keep an open mind and be agnostic. At first sight that seems an unassailable position, at least in the weak sense of Pascal's wager. But on second thought it seems a cop-out, because the same could be said of Father Christmas and tooth fairies. There may be fairies at the bottom of the garden. There is no evidence for it, but you can't prove that there aren't any, so shouldn't we be agnostic with respect to fairies?"

"Out of all of the sects in the world, we notice an uncanny coincidence: the overwhelming majority just happen to choose the one that their parents belong to. Not the sect that has the best evidence in its favour, the best miracles, the best moral code, the best cathedral, the best stained glass, the best music: when it comes to choosing from the smorgasbord of available religions, their potential virtues seem to count for nothing, compared to the matter of heredity. This is an unmistakable fact; nobody could seriously deny it. Yet people with full knowledge of the arbitrary nature of this heredity, somehow manage to go on believing in their religion, often with such fanaticism that they are prepared to murder people who follow a different one."

You should have taken 9-12 days off before you started so if you haven't yet and just started HST you have already screwed up big time.

I took 12 days off before I started as I went on my summer holiday. I found that if you start drinking booze at 12pm you lose your appetite for training later in the day, funny that.

    Ok then.

Why don't you do negatives in dips, chins, leg ext/curls, biceps curls, triceps extensions, etc...

You can do these and other exercises alone.

Good idea Restless, thanks, the only thing I wouldn't be able to do is bench, but for just a couple of sets I would be able to get a spotter.

You should have two spotters for bench negatives.
