The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Pulldowns vs. Chins

One of my lat exercises are pulldowns to the front. I love them but I'm wondering if doing pull-ups with palms facing out would be much of advantage as well. I know a lot of people do them and I'm wondering if they're basically as good as doing pulldowns . Should I do both as a lat exercise or is just doing one of them going to work fine? Thanks.
Best way to cheat on deadlifts...

Stand there for a few minutes, then pace back and forth a lot, huff and puff, wait until everybody's looking. Approach the bar. Back off. Approach it again. Back off. Get some water. Chalk up. Approach the bar again. Then spray some more chalk around. Wait until people start losing interest. When nobody's looking, pick it a little off the floor, and slam it down. Jump up and yell "LIGHT WEIGHT BABY". Then give high fives all around. - Belial

I like pull ups better. Plus, you have less of a chance to accidentally cheat.

To be honest, I'd consider my form very good on pulldowns, so that isn't a big concern. But besides form, do you find other benifits?

LOL sorry didn't really add any info really... but I am on the same page as you. Is there any difference between weighted pull ups and pulldowns? Assuming same grip.

Besides form, there isn't anything... but form is everything. With a pullup, you're using your core muscles quite a bit for stabilization, given that your lower half is hanging free. Also, there seems to be a significant difference, in the neuromuscular connection sense, in the movement -- pulling to your body vs pulling your body.

If I were to start from scratch as a young 13 year old again, I would do every press, squat, and perhaps deadlifts, for my entire career with chains. -- Dan John

I remember reading a thread on this recently and the general consensus seemed to be that pull ups are better.

Thanks for the input. I'm sure I'll add pull ups at some point in the near future. I've got to start researching my next routine so I may include them.
