Hey all, I have two boys, 10 & 11, I was wanting to get them started in some light training but wasn't sure if this is to young or not. Any ideas or suggestions?
Too young for anything other than bodyweight exercises.
Focus on fitness at that age and if they can do some pullups and pushups too then all the better.
That's kind of what I was thinking but wasn't sure. How does this sound.
squats, of course without any added weight
pull ups, or pull downs with my lat machine as they aren't strong enough to do pull ups yet.
sit ups or crunches.
These compund movements should give them a good start I would think.
Stick with pullups rather than pulldowns. If they can't do them, just hold their legs and assist.
Most importantly, make sure they stretch, and make sure to show them proper form.

let your kids decide whena nd what they want to do. the most you should do it provide 3 healthy meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. do not force them to do anything.. instead, ask them if they are interested in any sports, then see if there are any leagues for your child's agegroup in your local area..
I've always herd 14
I've always heard 14 or 15 also. Don't know where or who said it.
Always taught that you had to be a minimum of 14 or 15, but then again, my school starts kids doing that in football offseason the 7th grade (12-13 yr old). I started when I was 12 and got a great foundation, but I really didn't have that personal fire kick in until I was at least 15; up until then I only lifted because I had to.
