The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Hi guys, got a big problem. Whenever I work my legs at the gym the next day I have severe pain and swelling of my hamstrings. This lasts for up to a week. Should I use the R.I.C.E after my workout just in case as it always seems to happen even if I`ve hardly teained the hams. However my quads never get sore. I realise hams are smaller than quads and are more for endurance but this is causing a real problem for me. As I`m writing this I`m in excruciating pain. I cannot even straighten my legs my hams are so tight and I`ve tried stretching them with no luck. Have I got myself a severe muscle imbalance here or what? Gotta go get some ice. Any advice from you guys would be appreciated.

Thanx guys. Paul my leg workout looks like this:

Leg presses ( no plates for squats ).

    100k 20 reps warm up
    150 ( max weight, sh*te I know) 2-3 to failure

Leg curls ( weak hams )

    20k 20 rep warm up
    55k usually 10, 8, 6 strict

Leg extension ( strong quads )

    40k 20 rep warm up
    80k ( max ) 3 sets 8 usually 8, 8, 6.

Paul I go to failure on every set. They are all machines for legs it`s a poor gym I know but it has excellent freeweights for upper body.

Any suggestions, should I use lunges? I have a decent Vastus medialis ( teardrop) but very scarred ham tissue ( according to my sport therapy lecturer). Theyre very lumpy and I get pain mostly in the origins just below glutes. It hurts just to curl my leg no weight) not bad but uncomfortable.

    Any suggestions appreciated

    I would see a doctor.

My guess is,Yes you do have a imbalance and you have tight hams.

You may want to hold off on doing your quads and work on bringing your hams up.But see a doc first.

"I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord!"
