shrugs on standing calf raise machine

just tried them today and am conflicted on the effectiveness of it. any opinions? one negative thing -- i've got the outline of the lever cushion etched into burst blood vessels on each shoulder (similar to what happened the first time i ever did squats).

Yeah, I can definitely see that affecting your shoulders. Ouch.

I'd imagine you could accomplish the same thing with DB's and have a lot less pain in your shoulders from the pads.
Best way to cheat on deadlifts...

Stand there for a few minutes, then pace back and forth a lot, huff and puff, wait until everybody's looking. Approach the bar. Back off. Approach it again. Back off. Get some water. Chalk up. Approach the bar again. Then spray some more chalk around. Wait until people start losing interest. When nobody's looking, pick it a little off the floor, and slam it down. Jump up and yell "LIGHT WEIGHT BABY". Then give high fives all around. - Belial

I tried them once and it was just too ackward to do with enough weight to feel effective. I've just moved to barbell shrugs.

Try overhead shrugs if you want something different.

Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
