Arms Hurt More Than Pects In Dumbbell Bench Presses

when i do dumbbell bench presses, (with 5kg each hand), after about 100, my arms hurt more than my pects. is this supposed to happen? because i thought the exercise builds pects, therefore shouldn't the pects hurt?

bench does more than hit the chest. it also hits your triceps, which are what might hurt. 100 reps of any weight should exhaust the muscles.

with that said, stop that nonsense, go to a gym, and use a real routine.

even thought it also targets triceps, shouldn't the pects hurt more? because that's the main target?

and also, this isn't nonsense. i just have some free time and some dumbbells and thought i might as well do something. so please stop critisizing me about this point because you can't expect everyone to be like you.

Dude that was constructive criticism! 100 reps you are hurting your self more than helping. I would suggest you try a outlined routine if you are trying to get some muscular gains. If not and you are just trying to kill time that's great but I wouldn't suggest making threads and asking for help when you are knocking out 100 reps of DB chest press.
Take a look arround here. http://www.wannabebig.com/category.php?cat=4
That said LMFAO.. ok I feel better.

Okay.. First read some stickies, then get heavier weights so you are in the 6-12 rep range, and when pushing the dumbells up, i find that if i mentally focuz on squeezing my chest together, i get more of an effect in the chest.

Ya it's normal. If you can't get big weights just keep pushing those 5kg dumbells man, it's better than nothing.

Since you are obviously not serious about this, you might as well just do bodyweight type exercises like pushups, pullups, handstand presses etc. 100 reps is too much. I doubt you could do that many pushups.
    Just one guy's opinion.

Yes..do pushups. You'll get more out of them than 5kg DB's.

even with body exercises, such as pushups, it feels like my arms hurt more than my pects. is this right?

It's possible that your form is off. Hand placement will affect what part of your body has more of the workload. Are your hands wide, narrow, lower, higher?

Lots of stuff around the house to add weight. As long as you can safely grip it and do some constructive lifts, go for it. Be inventive.

i usually do my pushups with my hands out wide...what part does that concentrate on?

what parts do narrow, lower, or higher concentrate on?

Wider and even with shoulders, chest and shoulders get more of the load. Closer to your body, arms get more of the load.

Feet are higher when doing pushups. This will put more stress on shoulders.

30 to 40 is quite alright provided you do it with no sweat. I do 3 to 4 sets of 30 almost everyday
