The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    curling 60lbs 3 times

    Sup ya,

Quick question here. I am at 149lbs now, but been able to curl 60lbs. Already I got people thinking I am bs-ing looking at my sig, which i was doing 55lbs. I don't know, maybe curling is mystrong point.

Here is the question, i was working on my arms the other day. I have a home gym. I have both dumbells and the stackable weight where u can increase from 20lbs-90lbs. do you guys know what i am talking about, the rectangle looking thing.
Anyway, my dumbells only go up to 40lbs.
so i try 50lbs on the stackable weight and seemed way 2 easy.
then i moved up to 60lbs and was able to do it 3 times.
I know this is a lot of weight for a guy like my size. i just wonder if I the stackable is easier to do because of the layout and does not count, etc!! I don't think i am cheating cuz to eliminate using any body movement. I can kneel on my knees and do it as well. Which does not allow you to make much body movement and use very little leverage.

Please advise if you know what stackable weight thigy i am talking about and if this makes it any easier.

Don't know the "stackable" weight thing you are talking about. But @ 153lb's to do that kind of weight you must not be that tall. That's my observation anyways... if you can do that weight at normal hieight good for you.

I haven't used the stackable dbs, but I've seen them. Don't think they're any different than good ol iron. Either way, curling 60lb dbs is impressive for your size. Very nice. How big are your arms? What kind of weight can you push with your tris? (french press, pushdowns, etc) Deadlifting? Routine/split?

I can't curl for schlitz. lol

    defcon,
yeah i do more besides curls. lol
but since it's fasting month, i am only doing one body part a day.

    drew,
my arms are 15.6 inch to 16. Not all that super big. But on my frame it looks big since i have a waist of 28 and big shoulders.
Tris? what can i push? hmm. depends on the machine and if it's single pully vs. two. I work out with about 120-150 on pushdowns. Deadlifts, that i need to add to my workout.
routine - right now 1 body part a day. Once Ramadan is over i will do split as I don't have a job and time to bank in my body and look good.

That is pretty good. I used to curl allot before and maxed at 75. I do have one question for you. Are you actually curling them or throwing them up and catching them before they hit your shoulder? I only ask because I see many people use momentum or their back to curl. I saw this guy pumping 85 pounds weights last time, but all he was doing is throwing them up and not actually lifting.

If you are truly lifting them, then all props to you. That is very good.

    harryhoudini66,
no i am not just throwing them up cuz i add variaion to make sure i don't cheat. For exmaple on ur kneeling down and curling you can't use the shoulder as much. Also sitting on the bench.

Like i said, there is two things i have naturally. biceps and traps.
In HS people used to come up to me and go wow, so you started to lift weight. I was far from it. Did not touch weight til i was senior in HS. In college i was known for my guns. LOL!
    But yeah whatever works, right!
    We all need game somehow..

Here's a question that I thought someone else would have asked. Are you counting 3 reps as a set or were you trying to find a maximum weight that you can curl? I only ask, because, in my opinion, it's better to stay with higher reps on arm exercises. I try to stay at 12reps per set but never drop below 10.

Is 60lb really that much? Thats about 27kg right? Hmm. Are you including the bar in that weight?

    shamik,
I usually work out with 30s, 40s to do high reps.
but i was just testing to see my limits.

    Exnor,
We are talking about db curls, so no bar is present.
I think you might be referring to EZ curl bar where weight is added on each side.

Hmm that seems bizarre, I work in a gym and in my 2 years there the most I have seen anyone curl ( using the dumbells with GOOD FORM ) were the 30`s...66lb db`s. This guy was full of gear and about 230lbs of solid meat. Of course I see a lot of other people doing the 25`s and 27`s but their form is crap and their ROM is poor, like the erectors and delts are lifting 25k, biceps maybe 5k hehe.

And Bam, not to be rude but you are 40lb heavier than him and using aas I belive , I think he`s telling porkies.

If you are serious though that is fookin ACE !!!

60 isn't all that amazing, I can do 70-75 and only weigh about 170lbs. In my gym people have done more, and no one really pays attention.

Oh sorry Bam !! Nice to hear, I tried once and unfortunately turned out for the worse. Had to stop 4 weeks into a 12 week cycle.

i was thinking of making a mini video stream and upload it.
perhaps after ramadan, so you guys can tell me if i am cheating or not using 100% proper form.

But seriously no biggie. at the gym we have so many huge guys. Some of them are on S though.

and i wouldnt downgrade the lift there is a guy in my gym weighing 200 benching 415 for a rep and he thinks my 70 lb db curl for 4 reps(each arm) at 190 is amazing

If you could do that and squat twice your bench, I'd be impressed.
