Was the 1980 Mr. Olympia fixed?

Did Joe Weider fix the 1980 Mr. Olympia so Arnold would win?

Well, to answer that I will give you a general answer about the IFBB. The most deserving winner has nothing to do with who actually wins. Bodybuilding at the national level and above is more about politics and name recognition than physiques. The most recent Nationals (biggest amateur show and pro qualifier) is the perfect example.

As I have said before, bodybuilding and boxing are on par with bodybuilding being the worse of the two.

Yup...if you listen to all the 'unofficial' stuff that supposedly went on backstage, Joe W basically guaranteed Arnold he would win and not to worry about it.

Mike Mentzer definitely had words to say about this O.

arnie was very charsmatic. but how did yates and coleman sell the sport of Bodybuliding more than some other pro's if it all politics?

the only coverage of BBing i get is via web and the odd flick through BBing mags so i do not get to hear them, go to guest poses, seminars etc. So i do what they are like in person to judge their personality like you get more in america.

    Probably, like most contests.

Although i think Yates and Coleman have been two untouchable bodybuilders over the past 11 years combined.

yates definetly deserves all his wins but ronnie on the other had shouldn't of won the 2002 Olympia. That was Gunter's hands down. Now for the 2003, definelty Coleman. He was a beast!!!

I will have to disagree about Yates deserving all of his wins. After he tore his bicep, I don't know how you could vote for him to win. It sucked that happened but it did and from then on shouldn't have won another Olympia.

definelty!! no more mass monsters, it's time for asthetics to take place.

I think soon judges will lean more towards this look. Take the GNC show of strength. Dexter placed first!!

Arnie v. Coleman I'd give it to Arnie because his body looks more perfect whereas Colman's is just inhuman. He should be an X-Man or something.

I agree, Arnie had the physique of perfection while Ronnie is a sideshow. Arnie had the type of physique artist would sculpt statues after, while Ronnie is more Stan Lee's style

Yeah, id like to see a return to more 'perfect' aesthetic physique judging rather than more focusing on size...

Having ronnie win is a good thing I think. Judging on the basis of mass and bodyfat is what seperates bodybuilding from beauty contests.

Is it just me or has Ronnie done a really dodgey job of oiling up in those shots..... lower thigh/knee areas and his right lat have nothing on them.

Imagine taking the dog for a walk with thighs like tha tho

Yeah but is bodybuilding just about who has the most mass? Dexter is huge, too, but not grotesquely huge. His proportions are terrific. He's ripped to shreds as well, hence his nickname, "the Blade."
