    Spinning vs. regular stationary bike?

I know this probably isn't the best place to ask this but, umm, it's, uhh, for my wife see, yeah that's it, the wife wanted me to ask this. She wants an exercise bike for Christmas and was asking me about spinning bikes. How would that differ from a regular stationary bike. From what I have seen on the net, stationary bikes offer computers, programs, automatic tension adjustment, etc. The spinning bikes I have seen, seem pretty stripped down, although the price isn't stripped down. Do you use these bikes differently? Sorry to sound like a bafoon but I'd like to know before I buy one.

    Thanks,
    Jerry

Why don't you just get her a membership to a gym?

I honestly don't know the differences other than what you mentioned bout the spin bike being stripped down. It's possible that it could have something to do with better position on a spin bike than on a regualr gym bike.

    Found a link for you.

We have a pretty decent setup in our basement. We currently have a treadmill for cardio but having a bike would add some variety.

    Thanks,
