The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

I do Traps on back day since they're considered to be primarily associated with the back muscles. Plus, its just easier for me to do them on Back day via shrugs rather than with shoulders, esp after doing presses and raises.

Back(pull) day, because who needs a shoulder day? But really, because its a back muscle and involved in other "pull" excercises.

I don't have a day dedicated to shoulders but work shoulders and traps on same day.
I'm not moaning, i'm having an opinion.

Do traps with back, they are part of the shoulder girdle but are a major back muscle. They are activated in all pulldown and rowing movements so doing them with delts will just be over-training them.

It`s not going to harm anything ,but why seperate the back workout in the first place?Just my thoughts ,if working traps with delts is good for you it`s not a biggie.

I train my lats with lower back. Adding Traps along with this wouldn't do me any favours.. what works for one etc etc... i train my delts with my traps as it works for me but to an extent as to avoid over training. But we're all different. Just my 00.2

Traps should be done on deadlift day, duh.

Rowing and pull down motions do not activate the traps nearly as much as simply holding a heavy weight, such as in a deadlift. This makes deads a nice warmup for shrugs.

Thanks for all the info! Looks like the vast majority of you do traps on back day. I must admit I'm currently doing them on my shoulder day but I may switch them to my back day just to see if there is any difference for me.

It's called following the pack.. you did ask why people do them with back but i don't see that part. Just a thought, not trying to be an ass.

Why I do them on "pull" day, as opposed to "push" day: I prefer to work every muscle 2x per week. I have 2 pull sessions per week. Some pull excercises stress the traps. As jammasternash pointed out, so do deadlifts (done on my leg day). If I were to work my traps on push/shoulder day I would be working them every day to a certain extent. Now if you were only doing each bodypart 1x per week, it may not be a bad idea to do traps on a seperate day. Go ahead and post your routine and we may be able to give you more specific advice, because as jason said, simply telling you "back day" doesnt help you that much, really.

This is what i currently do for traps along with the other exercies I do on that day.

Shoulder Press 3 sets 8-10 reps
Ez Curls 2 sets 8-10 reps
Plate Raises 3 sets 8-10 reps
Dumbell Shrugs 3 sets 8-10 reps
Bar shrugs 3 sets 8-10 reps

I train chest and back mondays, legs and abs on wednesdays, and arms on friday.
