Haha, great post but no . Music from about 1988 to about 1995 sucked real bad .

Music was way better back then.

Today we have bling bling rap, dixie chicks, and justin timberlake. What is there to like about it?

(alright well the bling bling is okay sometimes)

Hip hop was certainly in a better state from 89-95, if I hear get low or milkshake again bad things will happen.

Way better back then. Music was great up until around 96-97.

Music was great when it was about talented musicians. Now it's about "Who is attractive enough for the magazine cover and who would look good on MTV".

When I'm elected president, I will ban music that sucks.

Its all perspective. Alot of the music I listen to came from that era. Hard rock and metal.
A good deal of the people on this site are young/kids so I am guessing this poll will lean towards todays music.

I think alot of it is what you grew up with. I know I am stuck in a time warp. Lately though I have been hearing a little more new music, since I moved. Theres a couple songs I like not a ton though.

Speaking of videos remember when Metallica was the band that wouldn't make videos? There definetly proof music was better back then.

Two GNR albums in the top ten speaks volumes about how much better music was back then.

.....goes off and wishes there would have been more than 3 main GNR albums....

SF: Pop music has been image-oriented and largely unchallenging since the beginning. I love the Beatles, but they were the boy-band of their time, just like Herman's Hermits or the Monkees or... not to mention the girl-groups.

Before 89.....I think 50s-70s was the pinnacle of rock music. Beatles. 80s rock.......argh. ok at times when youre in the mood for a token hair band song. Mid 90s rock can be good too.

WHat do i know. I have Radiohead cds next to my Frank Sinatra cds......

Pop music is getting worse and worse every year. The best years for the music I listen to (hard & fast) were probably around 94-99.

It's very difficult to identify even "average" musicians these days.

    Where are they?

I've never, EVER in my short lifetime witnessed a music industry so completely dominated by consumers who only appreciate a narrow age group.

15 years ago you turned on MTV, and you got Steve Winwood, Stevie Nicks, Guns n' Roses, Warrant, Tone Loc, Phil Collins, NWA, Van Halen, The Bangles, LL Cool J......I mean d*mn......that's an age/style demographic that's all over the map.

You didn't enjoy the video they were playing.....fine....wait 3 minutes until something good came on.

Now I pretty much flip to MTV to see if Outkast's "Hey Ya" is playing, otherwise, I switch it.

Music absolutely SUCKS these days. More specifically, MTV.
