Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Blood work and fasting

I have to get blood work done tomorrow. I forgot what my dr told me about fasting. Is it 12 hours?

Also, what do you recommend I eat before bed, since I wont be able to eat breakfeast when I wake up?

Last time I went in for blood work it was 12 hours. I would have some milk and eggs before bed, good protein. Also, maybe some fat, peanuts along with fish oil caps. I really wouldn't worry about it too much though.

I went and got it done guys. Thanks. I ate half a cheesesteak and a glass of milk at 10pm. I got my blood drawn at 9:20am next morning. Not exactly 12 hours, but close

I hope brushing your teeth in the morning doesnt affect the test

The only reason doctors tell you to fast before getting blood test is so that they can get an accurate blood sugar level. Fasting wont change the amount of red blood cells, white blood cells, hormones or anything else. So if you dont care about your blood sugar level, it is not even necessary to fast. Also I think it is recommend now that you fast for 18 hours.

I'm a medical technologist (I work in a hospital laboratory, bloodwork and all that). Fasting 8 hours is usually enough, but they tell everyone 10-12 hours just to be sure. Lipid panels (cholesterol fractionation) will be affected by a non-fasting state, as well as glucose (blood sugar).
