The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Overall a good day. Pretty clean diet and overall I'm happy.

Worked like a dog today. Put up fence. Outside temp. was 95 degrees with the humidity making it feel like 105. Ants were everywhere and bothered the hell out of us.

Workout tommorow is Back and Shoulders, and I'm ssooo ready to get in there. I'm just ready to lift again.

    Food:

Meal 1- Nitrean, Milk, Omalet, Grits

    Meal 2- Protein Plus Bar

Meal 3- Chicken Salad Sandwich, Chicken Sandwich

    Meal 4- Hamburger Steak, Pasta

Meal 5- Balance Bar, Nutri Grain Bar, Milk

    Meal 6- Grilled Chicken Sandwich

    Totals:

    Calories- 3232
    Protein- 261grams
    Carbs- 272grams
    Fat- 122grams

Well lets just say that my totals SUCKED today. Decided to go eat breakfast with my family. That ended up being a huge mistake. Fat was incredibly high during that meal. The hamburger steak was really high in fat too. Overall I'm very dissapointed in myself.

    Workout- Back and Shoulders

    Chinups (Palms Out)-
    BW + 2.5lbs x 1
    BW + 2.5lbs x 2
    BW + 2.5lbs x 3
    BW + 2.5lbs x 4
    BW + 2.5lbs x 5
    BW + 2.5lbs x 4
    BW + 2.5lbs x 3
    BW + 2.5lbs x 2
    BW + 2.5lbs x 1

    Dumbbell Rows-
    60lbs each hand x 10
    65lbs each hand x 10
    65lbs each hand x 10

    T-Bar Rows (new grip)-
    55lbs x 10
    65lbs x 8
    70lbs x 6

    Front Raises-
    30lbs each hand x 10
    30lbs each hand x 10
    30lbs each hand x 10

    Side Laterals-
    20lbs each hand x 10
    20lbs each hand x 10
    20lbs each hand x 10

    Machine Shrugs-
    Stack +50lbs x 10
    Stack +60lbs x 10 (+10lbs)
    Stack +70lbs x 10 (+20lbs)

    Rear Raises-
    20lbs each hand x 10
    20lbs each hand x 10
    20lbs each hand x 10

Well I'm going to take the front raises out. Something in my left arm feels like it's going to snap in two everytime I do them. Overall it was a great workout, but I feel like now everything is overshadowed by how poor my diet was. I'm really dissapointed in it.

Today the lady at the gym commented on how it looks as though I've lost weight. This kind of confuses me because I've actually gained roughly 7lbs. I personally think I am losing a little body fat, and it may make me appear slightly smaller.

Don't be too disappointed. 1 day of eating a higher % of fat wont do major damage considering you hit your calorie totals.

You might look "slimmer" because muscle is denser than fat and weighs more. So technically if you look slimmer its a good thing if you weigh more.

HELL YEA. Now this is the way to recover. Everything was dead on. I'm totally happy with my totals today. Such a better day.

    Workout- Legs and Triceps

    ATF Squats-
    145lbs x 10 (+10lbs)
    145lbs x 10 (+10lbs)
    145lbs x 10 (+10lbs)

    135lbs x 10 (+4 reps)
    155lbs x 10 (+20lbs)
    165lbs x 10 (+30lbs)

    These felt GREAT.

    Tricep Pushdowns-
    130lbs x 10
    140lbs x 10
    150lbs x 10

    Overhead Tricep Rope Extensions-
    60lbs x 15
    70lbs x 10
    80lbs x 10

Overall a good workout. I felt like I was able to do a lot better with my Tricep day away from my chest day. Overall though, I am very happy.

Played tennis tonight. Beat my highschool coach 6-4 6-3 7-5. Considering I made some bad shots on occasion, I'm extremely happy with my play.

Once again they lady at the gym commented on how I looked like I was losing weight. I DON'T UNDERSTAND. I don't think I'm shrinking any, but could it be so?

    Thanks for the support Soba.

    Food:

Meal 1- Nitrean, Milk, Oatmeal, Small piece of ham, Small homemade biscuit

Meal 2- Chicken Supremes, Fries, Half a Biscuit

    Meal 3- Spicy Chicken Sandwich

Meal 4- Roast Beef Sandwich, Fries

    Meal 5- Milk, Balance Bar

Today was scheduled "relaxed diet day." While I didn't eat good, I didn't eat everything in sight either. I actually think my totals were pretty close, though I'm sure my fat levels were a bit on the high side. Relaxing day overall.

    No Workout.

Played some golf with my dad. Had a fun time. We don't get to spend a lot of time together. I enjoyed it even though it was really hot today. Played some poker tonight and made 3 dollars. At least I didn't lose any money.

Doesn't feel like I got enough calories in today, but my choices of food were good.

Played some tennis this evening. Played like crap but won a set and lost a set. Nothing seemed to fall for me. Oh well.

Weigh In: 161lbs. Down two pounds from last week. This is really disheartening. I don't understand. I've kept my diet pretty constant as of late but suddenly I drop two pounds. I seem to flucuate between gaining weight and losing weight, even though my diet stays relativily(sp?) the same.

    Food:

    Meal 1- Nitrean, Milk, Oatmeal

Meal 2- Balance Bar, Nutri Grain Bar

Meal 3- Stir Fry Chicken with peppers and onions, refried beans, and spanish rice

    Meal 4- Raisans, String Cheese

Meal 5- Pepper Steak, Lite Mac and Cheese, Corn

    Meal 6- OJ, String Cheese

No Totals. I'm going to go away from keeping my totals for awhile. I'm just going to start eating and see how it goes. I'm going to try and still eat cleanly, but I'm not going to worry so much if I eat something that's "bad" for me. Keeping my totals for one is just a lot more for me to do during the day, and also trying to bulk cleanly is getting way to expensive. I don't have a full time job so it's taking everything I can do to keep buying more and more food. Like I've heard around here, I'm going to "eat big, lift big, and sleep," and just quit trying to overthink stuff.

    Workout- Back and Shoulders

    Pull ups (3's) Palms In:
    BW + 2.5lbs x 3
    BW + 2.5lbs x 3
    BW + 12.5lbs x 3
    BW + 12.5lbs x 3
    BW + 17.5lbs x 3
    BW + 20lbs x 3 (+2.5lbs)

    30 Degree Lat Pulldowns-
    120lbs x 10
    130lbs x 10
    140lbs x 10
    150lbs x 10

All the way up to the last couple of reps in my third set were strict form, after that my form faltered a little bit.

Hammer Strength Iso Lateral Row (Weight each side)-
    2 Plates each hand x 10
    2 Plates + 10lbs each hand x 10
    2 Plates + 35lbs each hand x 10 (+5lbs)

    Overhead Dumbell Press (Each hand)-
    45lbs x 10
    47.5lbs x 10 (+2.5lbs)
    50lbs x 9.5 (+5lbs)

Couldn't quite get the 50lb dumbell up with my left arm, that's why I have it lifted as 9.5 reps.

    Machine Shrugs-
    Stack + 50lbs x 10
    Stack + 70lbs x 10
    Stack + 80lbs x 10 (+10lbs)

    Smith Machine Military Press-
    115lbs x 10
    135lbs x 10
    145lbs x 7 (+10lbs)

Overall a GREAT workout. I felt like my intensity level was up, and I felt like all my lifts were on. Apparently I'm shedding bf and no muscle because even though my weights down, I'm still making great gains on my lifts. I'm ready for my Chest/Bicep Day tommorow.

Finished putting up the fence today. No more for me to set up.

Yeah. Counting is a pain. For me the cleaner I eat, I tend to eat less in terms of cals because I am not as hungry. Cheating a whole different story.

I'm sure you know this, but I wanted to point out that once your weight increases, your caloric requirements increase as well, right? If you want to progressively get bigger you are going to need to progressively eat bigger.

Its funny because I also plateaued at about that weight forever.
