The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Chris- Haha thanks man. Still got a ways to go to get anywhere near ya. Expect me to get even fatter. The plan is to get to 175 and bring it back down to 165.

    Stumpy- LOL thanks man.

    Gabe- Appreciate it.

LK- You can still catch up. You just gotta start putting on some weight haha.

McV- Come on by whenever man.

BigCorey- Welcome to the journal man. There are much better people to follow than me haha. I'm small.

The heavy pulling hit me hard last night as far as fatigue. I was out about 10:30. Felt extremely tired. Didn't really have any soreness until this morning. Everything is sore. Uploaded the videos from yesterday and the day before. I'll post them up once YouTube gets them finished.

big pulling man! oly squats are looking pretty sick, also. Seems like you should crush out those PRs you have in your sig with ease. I wish I had some stong bands... I only have the lights for reverse bands... haha. Good stuff bro. I'll keep in tune.

Oly squats look really great man. As far as the reverse band deads I dont see the bar comming off of the bands at the lockout so it looks like the bands are helping you the whole way through. Try making it so at the lockout portion of the lift the bands no longer help and the bar comes off of them.

BoB- Thanks man. Appreciate it. I'm just now starting to use the bands. I've had them since Christmas but haven't gotten around to using them.

Kev- Yea you're right. Me and Chris had talked about this in my vid thread. When I set the bands up, I was standing straight up, and at that point, the bar was off the bands. I didn't even think to take into account that my sumo stance would bring me closer to the ground. With that said, I don't think that the bands were giving much at all at that point.

Sid- Appreciate it man. Happy that my form is fairly decent on those Oly Squats. I don't work them TOO often, so as long as I can get some good work in, I'm happy.

Felt fairly good going into the gym today. Got kind of tired. Not sure if it was just ****ty sleep, or if I need to take some time off. Depending on how I feel, I may take Friday and Saturday off.

    Workout: DE Upper

    Location: Campus Gym

    Weight: 160.1lbs

    DE Bench (4 grip)-

    45lbs x 10 x 2 (WU)
    95lbs x 5 (WU)
145lbs x 3 (need a better arch, need better speed)
145lbs x 3 (arch was a bit better, as was speed)
145lbs x 3 (gett faster, arch was decent)
145lbs x 3 (pretty decent sped, arch flattens after unrack)
145lbs x 3 (fairly decent, brought extremely low)
145lbs x 3 (first 2 all over the place, tighten up)
145lbs x 3 (pretty good set, kept arch tighter)
    145lbs x 3 (decent overall)

    Standing OH Press-

    45lbs x 10 (strict)
    95lbs x 10 (strict)
    115lbs x 8 (Push)
    135lbs x 8 (Push)
    145lbs x 8 (+10lbs, Push)

    Chins-

    BW x 5 (WGPA)
    BW x 5 (MGPA)
    BW x 6 (+1, CGPA)
    BW x 6 (+1, WGPI)
    BW x 6 (+1, MGPI)
    BW x 6 (+1, CGPI)

    Chest Supported T-Bars-

    45lbs x 10
    70lbs x 8
    70lbs x 8
    70lbs x 8

    Band Pull Aparts-

    Mini x 10
    Mini (closer) x 10
    Mini (closer) x 10

    Comments:

Decent workout overall. The speed could've been better. I'm having a hard time keeping my arch from flattening out. I don't have anybody to hand off, so it's harder for me to maintain a decent arch. Had a couple of reps that were all over the place. Needed to get tighter. Decided to do some OH Pressing instead of CGBP. Was able to put up 145 for a fairly solid 8. Considering I haven't done any OH work in about a month, I was fairly surprised to hit a 10lbs rep pr. I like rotating the grip on the chins. I'm going to attempt to add one rep each week until I can do a 6 x 8, and then start adding weight. The band pull aparts came together the best they ever had. Really moved my grip in and got a great pull across my upperback. Really need to work on my tightness, so that should help. Fairly happy with the effort today.

Good thinking with the upper back work to get a solid foundation to press off of. Your ability to do chin-ups probably exceeds the majority of people on this forum!

On a side note, what is you best set of RDL?

Coke- Haha for real. Seems like spring break went by in the blink of an eye.

    Comments:

Definitely could tell today that my body needs a bit of a rest. The speed off the box wasn't good, though once I got going, I generated quite a bit of speed. My pulling was a bit slower than normal up until the last three sets. I got pissed and started pulling faster, though probably a bit sloppier. Body was feeling a bit off so I did some Hypers instead of GMs. Also tried to do a bit of different Ab work. Some stuff hit my abs pretty good, and some didn't. The plan is to do a lot of form work on Friday and Sat. Probably end up doing VERY VERY light triples on the main lift and then very high reps on the auxillary.

Fuck, fight, or hold the light.

It amazing how our bodies do that, huh!!! Sometimes it makes me want to be always pissed when I walk up to the bar... just watch the sloppiness...

BTW.. that was a decent workout.. and if your speed is still slow after 2 or 3 sets.. with DE, it's no problem dropping down 10 or so lbs if the speed comes back up..

Just remember you are progressing... and still at a good clip..

    Kev- Appreciate it man.

BW- Yea I won't usually hesitate to drop the weight if I think my speed is really sucking ass.

    Coke- Thanks man.

BoB- Much appreciated. I actually saw Chucky V doing those on his DvD. Figured I'd steal them.

So I took the last two ME sessions off. My body felt beat to hell, so instead of doing anything I just played lazy and rested up. I've got to leave early Saturday morning for a tournament in GA, so I'm moving all my workouts back a day.

Weekly Weigh In: 159.8lbs. Down a slight bit. I think this is because my weekend wasn't all that overwhelming like it had been in the past. I ate more than I normally do during the week, but I don't think it was enough to make up for the smaller than usual intake during the weekend. No worries.

    Workout: DE Upper

    Location: Campus Gym

    Weight: 159.8lbs

    DE Bench (4 Grip)-

    45lbs x 10 x 2 (WU)
    95lbs x 5 (WU)
145lbs x 3 (pretty decent speed, arch could be better)
145lbs x 3 (pretty good speed again, better arch)
    145lbs x 3 (good speed, decent arch)
    145lbs x 3 (good speed and arch)
    145lbs x 3 (good speed, arch a lot better)
    145lbs x 3 (nice and quick)
    145lbs x 3 (speed was pretty good)
    145lbs x 3 (quick set, nice job)

    Chins-

    BW x 7 (+2, WGPA)
    BW x 7 (+2, MGPA)
    BW x 7 (+1, CGPA)
    BW x 7 (+1, WGPI)
    BW x 7 (+1, MGPI)
    BW x 7 (+1, CGPI)

    CGBP-

    185lbs x 7 (+10lbs)
    185lbs x 6 (+10lbs)
    185lbs x 5 (+10lbs)

    Chest Supported Seated T-Bars-

    45lbs x 10
    80lbs x 8
    80lbs x 8
    80lbs x 8

    Band Pull Aparts-

    Mini x 10
    Mini (closer) x 10
    Mini (closest) x 10

    Comments:

Overall a very good session back. The speed this time around was a lot better than last week's DE session. I unrack the bar myself so it seems that my arch flattens out a bit. I really need to work on that. Went ahead and bumped my chinup sets up to 7 reps. It isn't very difficult, so next week I think I'll do 8 and if that's too easy, I'll just start adding weight. Last time I tried high reps, I think I hit 16 fairly easily. Dunno if I could still do that though. The Close Grip came along pretty nicely as well. I want to work up to 185 for a 3x8 before moving up, and I think I should be able to get that done in the next week or two. Next week should definitely be a set of 8 and 7, and from there we'll have to see. The rest of the back work went pretty good as well. I really focused on getting a nice squeeze on the pull aparts. Choked up on the bands pretty good and hit my upper back quite nicely. Overall I'm happy with the effort.

Fuck, fight, or hold the light.

    Comments:

Much better DE session than last week. The speed towards the top of my squats is quite good, but I'm still a bit slow off the box. I'm sitting back decently though, which is good. The DLs were very fast today. I worked on getting my shoulders behind the bar, and it really seemed to help out. They felt very smooth today. I've also been trying to implement some of the stuff I've been reading in Starting Strength. It seems to be working pretty decently though some of the stuff takes some focus. Really hit my lowerback pretty good with the HyperExtensions. I'm liking using the bands for resistance. Had some decent ab work going. Planned on doing a bit more but ended up playing a game of basketball instead. Overall a good session today.

Quality DE session chub. I have the same issue with being slow right off the box. I was thinking it could be a lack of tightness during the pause on the box.

great workout Chubs. Same here, I'm slow of the box as well. It's just because my ham/glutes are weak, though. I've been working exploding my upper back against the bar and slightly back first, then throwing my hips forward- and it's been helping me get a little pop off the bottom.

Going to try any meets, soon?

LK- I doubt that's it, but thanks for the suggestion.

BoB- The plan is to possibly do one towards fall if I can ever find one that isn't a long travel. I'd like to have time to finish bulking up and then cut back.

    Sid- Haha yea yea yea.

Detard- My body is much better structured for pulling and squatting sumo, especially pulling sumo. I like it.

Had two exams today. Some tough ass Accounting Information Systems exam and then a Corporate Finance Exam. Made a 96 on the Corporate Finance and not sure on the other one. Needless to say that I've had my nose in books over the last couple of days.

    Comments:

Not a very good ME session. Granted I haven't been doing much OH pressing, but I still felt like I should've smoked 185. I missed it at the very top. Pretty pissed. Back is getting stronger, which I suppose is good. Had planned on trying the 90s for 5/5 but triceps weren't having it. Had to rush towards the end of the workout. Pretty pissed overall about this session. Not good stuff. I promise I will make up for it tomorrow though, mark my words!

Fuck, fight, or hold the light.
