Con- Yep, all about strength, though I don't want to lose any mobility, obviously.

LK- Thanks man, but not sure what you mean. The DLs hit my posterior chain, as do the cleans or the high pulls. I rotate GMs and Hypers as well.

Sid- Thanks bro. It wasn't anything special. The squats felt fun. The sandbags were pretty decent, but would've been better if I hadn't done them at the end of the workout.

The Dl's do. But, for some reason, I don't see high pulls as having the same level of benefit as gm's or hypers.

Stumpy- Yea the sandbag work did take a bit out of me. I'm still gaining weight. Hopefully be up to 162 tomorrow morning.

LK- They don't really hit the posterior chain as much as the GMs for sure, but they'll help my clean, which I'm trying to get up as well as my Big 3. I also feel that it is important to do things from time to time that don't lock you into a certain movement pattern all the time.

For the most part, you like doing tons of work with plenty of variety - I think that is so cool.

Variety is the spice of life haha.

Weekly Weigh In: Had a bunch of different readings today. Averaged them all out and ended up at 161.6lbs, which is the same as last week. My weight was down about Wed, so I ended up pounding a lot of food over the next two days. I'll have to keep that up next week.

    Workout: ME Upper

    Location: Home

    Weight: 161.6lbs

    ME Bench-

    45lbs x 10 (WU)
    95lbs x 5 (WU)
    135lbs x 3 (very solid, mechanical)
155lbs x 3 (great set again, very nice)
    185lbs x 1 (strong single, very fast)
    205lbs x 1 (too EZ, nice single)
215lbs x 1 (way too quick, gonna smoke a PR)
235lbs x 1 (+10lbs PR, ass twitched up and then went right back down)
240lbs x miss (ass came up, just missed literally 2" from top)

    Chins-

    BW x 5 (MGPA)
    BW +45lbs x 5 (MGPI)
    BW +55lbs x 5 (+5lbs, MGPI)
    BW +45lbs x 6 (+2 reps, MGPI)

Close Grip 3 Board (no arch)-

    205lbs x 3 (unstable as hell)
    205lbs x 8 (+2 reps, much more stable)
    210lbs x 5

    Suspended Pull Downs-

    25lbs and Tow Strap x 3 x 15ft
    25lbs and Tow Strap x 3 x 15ft

    Band Pull Aparts-

    #3 x 10 (up a band)
    #3 x 10 (up a band)

    *RC WORK*

    Comments:

Overall a great session today. Felt a bit tired going in, so I didn't know how I'd respond. Was able to put up a nice 10lbs PR. I was SO close to a 15lbs PR but couldn't quite eek it out. You'll see how close once I get my vid put up. The CG 3 Board felt weird to begin with. I didn't set up with my legs far apart on the first set, and kept feeling like I was going to fall off the bench. The chinups felt good today. I decided to do something a bit different and tried some suspended pull downs. They were definitely something I've never done before. Thought they would be very easy, but that wasn't the case at all. A 45lbs plate was almost enough to provide and anchor for me to climb up the tow strap. I had to drop down to a 25lbs weight and even that was pretty tough. Just something different to try. Overall a good session. I was stoked about the 10lbs PR, and hope to put up something good tomorrow.

Your bench has really started to come up over these past couple of months. Out of curiousity, what is your sticking point and what changes have you made to your training to get these gains?

My sticking point used to be right off my chest. I talked with Isaac (Borris) and he suggested I work on some OH Pressing, as the problem could possibly be that my shoulders were weak. I also lowered my DE Benching weight and really focused on speed.

Here is the video from today. The music is NSFW.

Didn't have practice today, so I was able to just lay around before working out. Felt good. My buddy James came over and lifted with me.

    Workout: ME Lower

    Location: Home

    Weight: 161.6lbs

    ME Squats (Sumo)-

    45lbs x 10 (WU)
    95lbs x 5 (WU)
    135lbs x 3 (WU)
185lbs x 3 (very easy, gotta check depth)
225lbs x 1 (such an easy squat, depth was good)
    275lbs x 1 (easy lift, nice sitback)
285lbs x 1 (pretty easy squat, gotta get hyped up!)
    305lbs x 1 (+10lbs PR, grinder for sure)

Conventional Rack Pull (2-3" above knees, 4th hole)-

    135lbs x 5 (DBL OH)
    225lbs x 5 (DBL OH)
    275lbs x 5 (DBL OH)
315lbs x 5 (mixed from here on out)

    455lbs x 3 (DL grip)
    495lbs x 1 (DL grip)
    515lbs x 1 (+20lbs PR, DL grip)

Power Cleans (no squat to catch)-

    135lbs x 4
    145lbs x 3
    155lbs x 1
    165lbs x 1
185lbs x miss (done at this point)

    Band Trunk Twist-

    #2 choked x 10/10
    #2 choked x 10/10

    Russian Twist-

    45lbs x 10/10
    360 degree handoff (25lbs) x 10/10

    Decline Situps-

    BW x 10
    BW +25lbs x 10

    Comments:

Overall a very good session. Was able to set a new PR on my Sumo Squat. Hips felt kind've tight though. The rack pulls went good as well. Was able to set some decent PRs on that. By the time I got to the cleans, I didn't have anything left. Would've been very surprised if I had set a PR in that as well. I think I could've potentially been able to squat more, but as of late I haven't done any heavy squatting with a wide stance. Most of my heavy squatting has been done with a close stance. I'm 20lbs off of the goal I set to have completed by August 25th. I should definitely meet, if not exceed that goal. Things are moving in the right direction.

Nice vids. Squat was a nice grinder!

I would do the rack pulls from below the knee for most of your work. The high ones really are more beneficial for grip work.

LK- Thanks man. I actually expected to be able to get more out of it.

Chris- Thanks bro. It was nice and slow but came up without a problem. I agree on the rack pulls. I very rarely do them from that height. It's more of a confidence boost for me than anything. When I know I can take that much weight and hold onto it, it really helps my mindset going into my heavy DL sets.

Stumpy- Haha appreciate it man. Got a long way to go.

Eric- Thanks man. I think I tend to hold form pretty well when squatting. It seems that all the box squatting and everything else has really engrained keeping a good arch and what not, even when the lift gets tough.

BW- Haha too kind man. I would've loved to have put up 315 but it just wasn't in the cards for that workout. Not worried though. I'll have it next month for sure.

    Kev- Thanks man.

Steven- Haha whatever bro. You're way stronger than I am.

Not sure if I've outlined my plans here or not, so I figured I'd put them up. My goals for lifting are to total a minimum of 1000 at 165lbs RAW by August 25th (my 21st b-day). I only need 25lbs on each lift, and I've got 5 months to do this. Because of this, I'm going to push as hard as I can to hit 1100 before the 25th as well. Even if I come up short, I think I'll be putting up so me decent numbers. Once I hit 1100 RAW, I'm going to start looking at lifting with some equipment. 1100 RAW will also come very close to getting me a National Record in my age class in the 100% RAW Meets. I'll probably try and compete a couple of times to see if I can't put up some records (at a minimum, state records).
