The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

CR- You're just jealous of my good looks. I'll have to get a video of my chinnups sometime. Like I said, that last set wasn't good, but I'm not worried about it. Give me a couple of weeks and 85 will go up past the chin.

Sid- Thanks man, I appreciate it. Here's the avatar pic. This was taken awhile back at 155. It was the batch of my most recent pictures (other than the ones I just posted).

Bear- Haha yea I'll definitely take it.

    Justin- Appreciate it man.

Stumpy- Haha thanks bro. Trying to get stronger.

So the paintball team absolutely destroyed a bunch of people this weekend. We played two days in a row in two different divisions. In the first division we took 9th out of 58 teams. The second day we played in the highest division you can and took 6th out of 28 teams. Beat the 1st seed team and the 2nd ranked team overall. Everybody played a great tournament and I shot a lot of people out. Very tiring but fun weekend overall.

    Comments:

Actually a very good session today. Kind've surprised. This weekend was pretty rough. Stayed cramped up in the back of an F150 for 9hrs on the way to the tournament. Got 4hrs of sleep and then played all day. I played 18 games in 2 days in >90F heat. After all that I had to drive back and didn't get back into NC and home until after 2am. I was way overworked and underfed. Figured that today's workout would be a bit slow. Started out that way but two sets into the benching my body seemed to warm up pretty good and my intensity picked up. The speed on my pressing was actually quite nice today. I'm bringing it very low on the majority of my sets and still getting a quick initial push. The chins went quite well, also. Quite possibly might have 25 in me for one set. Not all the reps are to a full extension. Ironically it is the later reps in which I hit full extension and a dead hang. Going to be shooting for 60 reps in 3 sets over the next several weeks. Was able to hit a 10lbs CGBP PR which was awesome. I actually feel that a 5x5 with 205 is possible. My triceps seem to be gaining strength. Did some low band rows and a bit of RC work. Overall a very good session for me today.

Bear- I should clarify that I weighed-in before heading to Tennessee. I'm probably down below 165 right now. I hate the heat.

    Comments:

Fairly decent all the way around this morning. Once again, I'm going to keep this 5x5 on my light day for awhile and see what happens. The pulling was decent. Hamstrings are pretty tight from this weekend so I wasn't expecting anything crazy. Really need to find my strongest position. If I don't arch as hard I pull faster, but obviously am not in the strongest position with my back. I'll have to just keep plugging away. The RDLs absolutely destroyed whatever was left in the tank. Could barely walk after those two sets. Hit up some ab work and got out of there. Pretty good today.

I remember reading about a finnish powerlifter who stressed a relatively relaxed upper body when you pull. It got me thinking. I will find the link tomorrow.

Here's a good link http://www.elitefts.com/documents/fi...ft-secrets.htm. It states Jarmo Virtanen was the one who demostrated the difference between the relaxed and flexed upper body during deadlifts.

You've been doing outstanding in here as of late. Sorry I haven't dropped in in awhile. Your bench seems to be really taking off!

Appreciate the link BoB. It seems as though my pressing is going along better than my pulling and squatting. Didn't used to be that way at all.

Weekly Weigh In: 165lbs. Down 2.5lbs this week. Pretty much knew this was going to happen. I barely got any calories in during the weekend when I was supposed to be carb loading, and my exertion levels were much higher than normal. Just gotta get back into it.

    Workout: ME Upper

    Location: Home

    Weight: 165lbs

    ME Bench (doubles)-

    45lbs x 10 x 2 (WU)
    95lbs x 5 x 2 (WU)
135lbs x 3 (setup crappy but great speed)
    155lbs x 3 (setup better, speed good)
185lbs x 1 (right setup, bring in some, very quick)
    205lbs x 1 (better setup, good speed)
    215lbs x 2 (easy double, bring lower, don't bail)
225lbs x 2 (brought 1st just a bit too low, had to fight back into place)
    235lbs x 2 (+1 rep PR,back cramping before unrack, oh well)

Chins Supersetted with Band Pull Aparts-

    BW x 5 (MGPI) // #2 x 10
    BW +45lbs x 5 (MGPI) // #2 x 10
    BW +70lbs x 3 (MGPI) // #2 closer x 10
    BW +45lbs x 5 (MGPI) // #2 closer x 10

    CGBP-

    135lbs x 5
    205lbs x 7 (+6 rep PR)
    135lbs x 20 (+1 rep PR)
    135lbs x 5

    Yates Rows (double UH)-

    145lbs x 15
    145lbs x 15
    145lbs x 15

    *RC WORK*

    Comments:

Very good workout for me today, especially since I'm down 2.5lbs from last week. I'm sure the weight loss didn't help my strength levels any, but I was still able to up my weights again. Had considered 240 for a double but without a spotter or liftoff, it wasn't worth chancing. Still happy with the 235. Took it easy on the chins today. Got a video for Chris once I can get some time to get it uploaded. Really want to beef up my upperback so I decided to superset some pull aparts. I'll probably keep this combo for awhile. Happy/surprised with the CGBP. Figured I'd hit it for a fair amount but didn't think that the 7 would go up as easy as they did. Only reason I didn't attempt 8 was that I sat there thinking about it too long and talked myself out of it. Still happy with what I hit. Was able to squeek out 20 on 135 which was pretty decent. The Yates Rows once again were done with high reps. They seem to hit my lats pretty good once I drop the weight and start hitting some higher reps. It's probably because I can get a better pull than when I up the weight. Overall a very good session for me, and I'm surprised my pressing is moving like it is.

Fuck, fight, or hold the light.
