The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Stumpy- Appreciate it man. Would trade it for a good benching session all around though.

BigM- The bench I've got at the house is a decent size, though not really tall.

LK- When you bench in the same place, all the time, ya sometimes need a change of scenery. Just felt like switching it up. Won't make that mistake again though haha.

Lion- Haha nope, Maestro wasn't there this time. I should've gotten Willie Parker to give me a lift off.

    Coke- Nope not really ha.

Justin- I feel for ya since you're down there for awhile.

Didn't have much going into this workout. Was up a lot earlier than I normally am. Spent the first half of the day pulling netting and rearranging the field since it was our ref day at the paintball field. For some reason I was fairly tired once I got back to the house and ate.

    Workout: ME Lower

    Location: Home

    Weight: 167.2lbs

ME Low Box Squats (1-2" Below)-

    45lbs x 10 (WU)
    95lbs x 6 (WU)
135lbs x 5 (feels good, lower back a wee bit tight)
185lbs x 3 (everything felt good, push hips back more)
225lbs x 1 (good stuff, liking this new stance)
245lbs x 1 (good single, keep sitting back)
265lbs x 1 (taped wrists, mental?, felt really light)
285lbs x 1 (+10lbs PR, longer pause, relaxed a bit too much, sit back more)
295lbs x 1 (+20lbs PR, gotta work on sitting back more)

Rack Pulls (sumo, 2nd pin, below btm knee cap)-

    135lbs x 5 (dbl oh)
    225lbs x 5 (dbl oh)
    275lbs x 3 (dbl oh)
    315lbs x 3 (mixed)
    365lbs x 3 (mixed)
405lbs x 2 (mixed, pec pulling too much for 3)
445lbs x miss (DL, both pecs pulling too much to complete)

    Rack Crunches-

    #3 x 10
    #3 x 10
    #3 x 10
    #3 x 10
    #3 x 10
    #2 x 10/10

    Band TT-

    #2 x 10/10

    Comments:

Pretty decent workout actually. Felt a bit tired going into it, so didn't really know what to expect. Hit a 20lbs PR but I was definitely expecting to since it's been a long time since I've done low box squats. I think if I was feeling a bit fresher I could've hit 305 or so. I've really got to work on sitting back more. I'm breaking my hips back but not sitting very far on the box. I'll have to work on that in the future. The rack pulls were feeling pretty good even though I wasn't feeling great. Really wanted to hit 445 and actually feel pretty good about that miss. I could feel it start to break from the rack but both pecs felt like they were going to tear. I had to bail out of that single and the previous triple. Oh well, next time for sure. Did some ab work and got out. A decent workout. Not my best, but definitely not my worst.

thats a very solid PR Chubs, that whole pec tear feeling has happen to be on deadlifts too, pretty crazy how your pecs come into play on a lower body dominate movement.

actually, its not. but its less than 3 lbs from what i weigh, and though you're still a hell of a lot stronger than me, once i weigh more than you, i'm going to rub it in that i'm bigger than you. vaj

Stumpy- Haha for sure. Got to make sure I don't go tearing anything though.

Lion- It's a bit up from last week. Hoping to get over 168 this week. We'll see. Go ahead and rub it in when you get bigger. I need motivation.

    Coke- Thanks man.

Kev- Thanks bro. Was hoping for more but wasn't really feeling it too much. Good to see you back.

Sid- Haha appreciate it, but it should've been much better.

Planning on taking off both ME days this weekend. My body has been feeling beat to hell as of late. Been feeling like crap for the last several days. Time to take a break.

    Workout: DE Upper

    Location: Home

    Weight: 167.2lbs

    DE Bench-

    45lbs x 10 x 2 (WU)
    95lbs x 5 x 2 (WU)
    145lbs x 3 (possibly best speed ever)
    145lbs x 3 (great speed again)
145lbs x 3 (arch is great, speed dead on)
    145lbs x 3 (feeling good, speeds great)
    145lbs x 3 (arch tight, speed on)
    145lbs x 3 (good speed, brought 2nd a bit too high)
    145lbs x 3 (good speed and arch)
    145lbs x 3 (nice overall, great sets)

    Slow Chins (MGPI)-

BW x 10 (dead hang between each)
BW x 10 (dead hang between each)
    BW x 10

    Band Pull Aparts-

    #2 closer x 10
    #2 closest x 10
    #3 x 10

    CGBP-

    135lbs x 5
215lbs x 5 (poor setup, banged rack on everyone)
    215lbs x 5
215lbs x 4 (lost at the top and couldn't fight it back in)

    Band Low Rows-

    #2 x 10
    #3 x 10
    #3 x 10

    *RC WORK*

    Comments:

VERY good speed today. Best it has ever been. It's amazing how much stronger I am when I can setup properly. Everything felt good for my DE benching. Had a tight arch, kept my elbows in, and got a lot of leg drive. If next week is faster, I'll probably go ahead and bump the weight up a slight bit. Didn't feel like doing any weighted chins today so I just did 3 sets of 10. Threw in a dead hang between each one. Tough on my grip but that was about it. Really wanted a new 5x5 record but knew going in that it would be tough. I've felt beat up lately and really need a break. It's also extremely hot and humid here so it was zapping my energy towards the end of the workout. Gave it a good run but PRs will have to wait. I'm going to continue to throw in a lot of upper back work. Really want to beef it up as much as possible. Great workout today even though there were no PRs.

good job on the bench session. move up a little for those speed sets. keep it working. about the humidity, you may have to suck it up and just lift really early in the morning.

I just might have to man. I really don't want to get up too early to lift though. Don't forget about soccer tomorrow evening.

soccer is a no-go tomorrow. mom and amberly are coming down to stay, plus i have finals. one at 8 and another at 2. about the lifting. just go to bed earlier and get up and loosen your body for around 30 minutes. do a good warmup in order to get your body ready and then go lift. i think the humidity is going to hurt your lifts if you dont just suck it up and do it. i mean, its only june. imagine july and august!

Lion- I hear ya. See below.

Stumpy- I'm thinking about it. I've got a full set of bands, just have to find something solid to anchor them to.

So I semi solved my heat problem. I found a portable free standing fan upstairs in a closet. Got it set up in the garage. It's not crazy powerful but it does a pretty good job.

    Workout: DE Lower

    Location: Home

    Weight: 167.2lbs

    Squats (low box for height)-

    45lbs x 10 (WU)
    95lbs x 6 (WU)
135lbs x 5 (very low bar placement, good stuff)
185lbs x 5 (felt great, HB, KO, ST, GA, wrists feel pretty good)
265lbs x 5 (+ some rep PR, wrists tweaked slightly, HB, GA, need knees out)
185lbs x 1 (true box sq, good speed and bar placement)
185lbs x 1 (box sq, good sitback and speed, wrists a little tender)
185lbs x 1 (box sq, very smooth, HB, ST, GA)

    DE DLs (platform, chucks)-

    135lbs x 5 (WU)
    185lbs x 3 (WU)
235lbs x 1 (not as fast but very smooth)
    235lbs x 1 (left out in front)
235lbs x 1 (slight overpull on right side)
235lbs x 1 (even pull, leaving hips high)
235lbs x 1 (out in front a bit, but smooth)

    Oly GMs-

    135lbs x 8
    155lbs x 6
    165lbs x 6 (+10lbs)

    Rack Crunches-

    #3 x 10
    #3 x 10
    #3 x 10
    #3 x 10

    Hanging Body Twists-

    BW x 10/10
    BW x 10/10
    BW x 10/10

    Band Trunk Twist (slow)-

    #2 x 10/10
    #2 closer x 10/10

    Comments:

Actually a very solid session today. My squatting is starting to feel better and better. I was really working the lower bar placement even with my heaviest set. I'm actually starting to feel comfortable with it even though my wrist was getting a bit tweaked. The 265 actually felt better this week than the 255 last week. Probably hit 275 fairly solidly next week. Speed on the deads wasn't quite there but the pulls were pretty smooth. I'm leaving my hips pretty high but still getting a fair arch. Did some GMs as I didn't feel like hitting heavy RDLs. Got a pretty good amount of ab work in. Heat didn't bother me today as much as yesterday. Thank God for the fan. Overall a good workout for me.

Listening to your body and taking a break is always better than injuring yourself. Why the drop to 185 for 3 singles after doing the heavier work?

Lion- You can come out here and lift if you want, but I'll be at work and then hanging around with Sara before she goes to Florida. I'm going to the beach this weekend as well so no ME sessions for me at all this weekend. You're more than welcome to use the gym if you want though. Just let me know.

Sid- I need a lot of form work as I've fell out of the groove lately. I wanted to work in some singles after the heavier set.

Its a nice time in your half of the globe to be on the beach, plus your not a fatty anymore so you'll probally enjoy it more! Even when I was 12% I couldn't stand being on the beach, now I'm a fatty I'm happy to be out there
