The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

You were the 5000th post in my journal. Today is your lucky day.

    Workout: Lower #2

    Location: Home Gym

    Weight: 176lbs

Lots of Ab work to warmup.

    Squats (sumo, chucks)-

    45lbs x 10
    95lbs x 8
    135lbs x 5
    155lbs x 5
    185lbs x 5
    205lbs x 5
    225lbs x 5
    225lbs + ~25lbs chains x 3

    Comments:

Actually felt pretty good today. It was cold once again so it worried me a bit. Every time I've hurt something it's been cold. Started with a good bit of ab work to warm up. Couldn't decide if I wanted to squat off a high box or not so I decided against it. Everything working up felt pretty solid. The 225 felt pretty good and then the 225 with chains went pretty well. They felt a bit heavy, but this is the heaviest I've had on my back in close to two months now. Felt a bit of a twinge when I came inside but nothing bad and it seems to be fine right now. I'll put some heat on it when I get ready for bed.

Fuck, fight, or hold the light.

Nice to see you're able to do some squatting with a couple plates. I want to suggest that you do your heavy day on Tuesdays and your dynamic day on the weekends, at least for lower. I think that would be a good way to avoid injury right now since I agree that the cold is your problem.

Also, I think you got the e-mail, but make sure James and G Wood come up on Monday. I want to make more people suffer through Fight Gone Bad with me (it is seriously the most miserable workout imaginable).

    BigMoney- Hopefully so.

    Indifference- Haha thanks man.

    Workout: DE Upper or something

    Location: Crossfit Wilmington

    Weight: 176lbs

    DE Bench-

    45lbs x 20 x 2
    95lbs x 10 x 2
    135lbs x 3 x 2
    155lbs x 2 slow
    155lbs x 2 speed blows
    155lbs x 2 wtf?
    155lbs x 2 better, much tighter
    155lbs x 2 better again
    155lbs x 2 still not fast

    Chins (MG)-

    BW x 15 PA

As punishment for my poor speed, I ran Crossfit's Fight Gone Bad, 3 rounds.

Total Score: 259 (though I know it's higher, counter screwed me but wuteva)

    Comments:

Speed just wasn't there today. Biceps were feeling strained while benching which is wierd. Couldn't hit anything with any decent speed. As punishment I ran the CF WOD. My roommates were up there doing it, so I figured I wouldn't be the only one in the house that didn't do it. I'm almost 100% positive my counter messed up on the Push Presses. I had remembered doing 20 each round but he only had me down for 13 on the second. Oh well, no worries. Score wasn't what I want, but actually a lot better than I expected. Beat both my roommates by 50.

Fuck, fight, or hold the light.

Lower back was tight but I played it by ear. Worked up a bit higher than I have, and a bit higher than I should've. It is what it is. Lower back is tender but nothing pulled. I've got quite a few days off so I'll make due with it. Overall a pretty good session.

So Chris works out up at Gold's? What's he look like? There's only like 5 other guys that consistently lift in the POWER AREA, so I'm sure I recognize him.

    Appreciate it man.

Went up to the CF gym tonight. Everything was really tight, including my back. The plan was to just stretch and do some foam rolling. After stretching and moving around, my back was feeling a bit better and I got to looking at the WOD. It wasn't heavy and I figured I could use it to get the blood flowing. I didn't go at it that hard, though I put a fair amount of effort into it.

    WOD:

    5 Rounds for Time of-

    7 Pullups
    10 35lbs DB Thrusters
    20 Walking Lunges
    20 Sledgehammer Swings

    Time: 11:19

Probably could break into mid 10s if I put some effort into it. My quads were extremely tight so that really slowed everything down.

Fuck, fight, or hold the light.

My bench has gone to the ****ter. I sat back and thought about what's changed since I was making such big jumps. I've gone away from heavy triples and have been going for heavy singles for quite awhile nice. I'm going to get back into triples and stay away from singles for awhile. Next week will be 235 and so on and so forth. I've really gotta get **** lined out. This is pissing me off.

    Comments:

I'm not sure where my pressing strength is going. This bums me out. Damn back injury. 6 weeks ago I could hit 265 and was hoping to hit 275+ soon. Now I can't handle 235 for a double. I'm beyond pissed at this point. I'm wondering if it's a lack of shoulder strength. My back work went pretty well. That's about the only thing.

Did hurting your back make you change your setup for bench? I know when I hurt my back my bench suffers. Mainly cause I can't get my arch set as tight as normal and then everything else from foot placement to hand placement falls apart. So I end up with a bunch of bad bench sessions and thusly my bench numbers fall. Sort of a domino effect.

First time in more than two months that I've been in the briefs. Definitely the most weight I've handled in a long time. My back actually held up great. It has felt awesome the last couple of days so I was pretty optimistic going in. Didn't want to push for heavy singles, just some heavy triples. My briefs are fitting nice and tight. Built up a **** ton of pressure.
