The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    KJ- Haha **** that.

Runt- Thanks man. I only add CF every now and then. My focus is still on PLing. You might want to talk with KingJustin.

    Workout: Metcon

    Location: CF Wilmington

    Weight: ~176lbs

    5 Rounds For Time of:

    Tire Flip x 5
    Flutter Kicks x 50
    Rope Climb x 1
    24kg KB Swing x 10
    100m Sprint x 1

    Time: 12:05

Came back two hours later and decided to do it again.

    5 Rounds For Time of:

    Tire Flip x 5
    Flutter Kicks x 50
    Rope Climb x 1
    24kg KB Swing x 10
    100m Sprint x 1

    2nd Time Score- 11:12 (53 second PR)

    Comments:

Was trying a new rope climb technique. My rope climb is pretty ****ty, so I wanted to try a new solid approach. I was worried my back would go out on the tire flips but it held up. On the second go around I got more of a rhythm, but honestly I also pushed myself harder. I'm tore up right now though. I'm definitely paying for this double workout. My hands are blistered and my leg is cut up. Oh well. The price you pay.

Fuck, fight, or hold the light.

    Workout: ME Lower

    Location: CF Wilmington

    Weight: ~176lbs

    ME Squat-

    45lbs x 10
    95lbs x 8
    135lbs x 5
    185lbs x 3
    225lbs x 3
    275lbs x 1
    *In Briefs*
    325lbs x 5
    365lbs x 3
    395lbs x 3 (+2 rep PR)

    Comments:

Squatting was fairly decent. It went pretty well considering I was pretty loose at the bottom of my last set. My lower back was a bit stiff from all the tire flips, so that might have had something to do with it, but I just couldn't stay tight at the bottom. The walkout was a bit shakey but nothing bad. My RC hurt so bad at the end of the workout (and still does), that I just left. I'm used to shoulder pain, but this is ridiculous.

Fuck, fight, or hold the light.

Are you doing the shoulder stretches with a rope? I have found that when I neglect doing them my shoulder pain always intensifies, and when I do the stretches it always improves things.

Good squatting today either way. 395 for reps is no joke. And I like the double workout!

p.s. I would have beat your time pretty bad though. Just saying.

Oh and are you going to watch the competition on Saturday?

    Fooz- Appreciate it man.

Justin- I doubt I'll be down here. In order to claim you'd destroy my time, you actually have to do the workout...

I used to have RC issues after a behind the neck press went bad.. I always warmup with RC warmups with a 15lb dumbbell now.. I do a tri set:: seated db press (light, 50x20) then db side raises then standing db RC warmups with 15x15... that always gets the blood pumping in there and I haven't had any issues with it since..

    nice skwatting too..

Haha. Since I had nothing to do again today at work, I had a lot of time to think about things. I decided that to beat Tony I'll have to get a little lucky on which metcon we get, however I think he is throwing out all the ones I'm good at because he (a) can't do them, or (b) can't do them fast.

Anyway, the person that I think might take home the gold is ... Zach. Dude has been on fire lately, and this competition is pretty good for him. His shoulders are really big!

Hey I want some advice on deadlift...

As you know, my form is terrible. I end up trying to pull correctly, and then I realize I'm not going to make it off the ground, so I end up kind of completely losing my arch and just let my back cave, and I do a sort of hunch-backed deadlift. Anyway, I'm working on fixing this, but I want to put up 465 or 475 in the comp Saturday. So, with all this in mind, do you have any form suggestions? I'm not going to be able to pull "correctly" or anything, but should I drop my hips? Should I try to sit back a lot? Should I keep the bar really close? Really far? Should I come over the bar? etc.

I appreciate all the comments guys.

Justin, you've got to keep the bar close to your shins. As close as you can get it. Don't set your hips too low. Make sure you get your shoulder blades over the bar. Keep your knees pushed out. As soon as the bar leaves the floor and starts moving, shove those hips through.

Fuck, fight, or hold the light.

Hmm I was thinking I should do the opposite and keep the bar kind of far away. I know on a deadlift with even reasonable form I wouldn't want to do that, but since my back basically gives out .... I'll take your advice either way. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to use my legs by Saturday. I think I can do real GHR's now heh.

Are you in Wilmington still / are you going to CF tomorrow?

    Comments-

The gym had the bench put up for a competition they had run over the weekend. Instead of bring it down from upstairs, I decided to do some ME Floor Pressing. We had the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics this morning, so after a ~4.5 mile run, I was fairly tired. Pressing wasn't that great, but considering how ****ty my shoulder had been over the week, I'm not that unhappy. The time on the WOD was the fastest on the board. This one was kind've catered to me. I smoked it pretty easily.

I've gotta give this floor press thing a try.. it's good for triceps right?

how would you compare it to close grip benching?

Yea, give em a shot. With a Floor Press you can't arch or really get any leg drive (not supposed to anyway) so for me it tends to be a weaker movement than my close grip. With that said, I've got a buddy who can floor press more than his close grip.

Fuck, fight, or hold the light.

405 felt pretty heavy today. Walking it out of those damn squat stands sucks. Pretty happy with it. I'll be heading to SC next weekend so I'm hoping I'll hit something pretty solid there. Overall I've got some work to do.
