The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Good call on cutting it because it was cold. Don't want anything torn/strained. If you lift at your house you should look into a propane burner or something.

It was actually the gym. Their workout today involved 3 rounds of running and other ****. Because of that, they had to leave the doors wide open. Toooooo cold.

Decided I want to smash everybody in my BLET class so I figured I'm going to add in a bit more conditioning.

Combined two CF Workouts today. Did the workout in my boots and BDUs.

    Weight: ~180lbs

    Comments:

Actually finished right around what I wanted. I've lost a bit of conditioning, but suprisingly I'm still in pretty decent shape. Combining two CF workouts into one was a bad idea, but oh well. I'm sure I'll pay for it in the morning. This was pretty tough.

    Comments:

Didn't hit the numbers I wanted to but came close. We PT'd right before I went to the gym, though I don't think that played a role. I just haven't been able to get a solid arch going. It hurts my back, always on the left side. I haven't been able to figure out what's going on with it. Not happy with the way things have been going.

There's a dude that's in the reserves in our town that wears full gear to do almost everything. The only thing he doesn't wear it for is lifting. Running, sprinting, stairs, pushups, pullups, tuck jumps and anything else like that he'll have on his boots, fatigues and pack. I always here people make comments about him, but dude is in amazing shape, and no one dares say anything to his face.

    BoB- Haha very nice.

Crazy- That's what I'm here for.

We ran the POPAT today during our PT. I ended up with one of the fastest times in the class even with an extra 200yd run at the end. And I'm out of shape. That surely doesn't say very much for the rest of my classmates.

I think I'm going to switch my split up slightly. Not the actual split, but the lifts I do. I'll replace my bench day with an OH Press day and my squatting with DLing. I'm just getting a bit worn out and I want to try and fix some of my other problems I've got going.

It's not all that bad, and is actually a lot better on everything else. With that said, benching with a big arch drives me nuts.

Did a watered down CF workout with some of the guys in my BLET class. Didn't want to start them out with anything too hard.

    3 Rounds:

    600m run
    25 pushups
    20 walking lunges
    50 flutter kicks

    Workout: Mil Press (3s)

    Location: CF Wilmington

    Weight: ~185lbs

    Mil Press (3s)-

    45lbs x 10 x 2
    65lbs x 5
    85lbs x 3
    100lbs x 3
    115lbs x 3 (almost blacked out)
    125lbs x 6 (+1 rep PR)

    Chins-

    BW x 8 PA
    BW x 8 PA
    BW x 8 PA
    BW +35lbs x 3 PA
    BW +35lbs x 3 PA
    BW +35lbs x 3 PA
    BW x 5 rope
    BW x 5 rope
    BW x 5 rope

    Dips-

    BW x 10 (straight bar)
    BW x 8 (rings)
    BW x 15 (parallel bars)

    1 Arm DB Rows-

    70s x 8/8
    80s x 8/8
    90s x 8/8
    90s x 8/8

    Comments:

Pretty decent workout today. Not sure why I almost blacked out on the lighter set. I decided to take no chances on the next set and made sure to breathe between each rep. That probably cost me one or two, but it's better than falling out. I've been doing a lot more stretching and I'll continue to do so for awhile. Felt good to do some heavyish DB rows. Good stuff today.

    10 rounds:

    200m run

I also grappled a little bit tonight.

Nice little workout there. I don't think I could get through 3 rounds of that nonetheless 10.

Sid- I'm torn. I always want to get bigger and stronger, but I'm looking at going to the NCSHP. Therein lies a bit of conflict. In order to make it through their academy, you've got to be a PT stud. I've let my conditioning fall by the wayside so I'm having to add in a lot more. I'm still trying to put on weight but it's a bit of a struggle.

Crazy- Haha you'd be surprised. We have some lazy ****ers that got through it.

This was my 5th workout since Monday. I'm trying to keep up with my stuff as well as the PT with my classmates. It's rough.

    Workout: DLs (3s)

    Location: CF Wilmington

    Weight: ~185lbs

    Rough Max - 325
    90% x 325 = ~290
All sets use the 290 as a marker

    Deads (raw, no belt)-

    135lbs x 5
    135lbs x 5
    185lbs x 3
    205lbs x 3
    230lbs x 3
    260lbs x 5

    GHD Situps-

    BW x 10
    BW x 10
    BW +25lbs x 8
    BW +25lbs x 8

    GHD Back Ex-

    BW x 10
    BW +25lbs x 8
    BW +25lbs x 8

    KTEs-

    BW x 8
    BW x 8
    BW x 8

    Reverse Hyper off GHD-

    BW x 8
    BW x 8

    Stretching

    Comments:

I've intentionally based my DLs off a low max for a few reasons. The biggest reason is that my body is used to pulling only once every 6 weeks or so. I can chance an injury pulling at heavy percentages week in and week out, so I'm cutting things a bit low. It'll also give me a chance to keep this split up for awhile without plateauing.

Going to start doing some intervals and what not to get my 1.5 mile time down. I'll probably only run the actually distance a couple of times in the month. The other times will either be 400s or 800s. I wanted to get a good idea of where I was at with my 1.5 mile before starting all this. The only portion I have marked down is the 1.8 mile section back home, so I ran that and then broke it up into sections to figure out my 1.5 mile time.

    Weight: ~185lbs

    Time for 1.8 - 13:14 (>30 sec PR)

Time at 1.5 mile mark - 11:01 (>30 sec PR)

    Comments:

I pushed myself pretty hard. If I wasn't running the 1.8, I probably could've knocked 10-15 seconds off the 1.5 mile portion as I would've been sprinting it out. This is more than a 30 sec PR, and I'm between 7 and 10lbs heavier than the last time I ran for a solid time. My short term goal (by March) is to be below a 10:00 1.5 mile. I haven't been doing much running and almost no interval work, so I think I have a pretty realistic shot at that.

Did a good bit of foam rolling and mobility work so I could loosen up some. Dunno what the kink was but it worked out alright. I can tell my DLing has gone to the ****ter. The high-ish rep pulling smoked my hamstrings. I felt dead after all that. Oh well.

    Stretch

    Comments:

Pretty good pressing today. Probably a bit too much time between my last two sets but I still hit a decent number. Left probably one in the tank. Hopefully this next go around I'll smoke something good. Added the Floor Pressing in, and you can see how weak I've gotten. Gotta get stronger.

    Comments:

Actually a very good workout tonight. I think this may possibly be a post injury PR. The pulling felt pretty damn good.

Decent misc workout. The pin presses went better than last time. Didn't do anything all that heavy. Just hit areas I neglect.
