The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

I have a dextrose/whey/creatine shake about half hour before working out and a full meal about 30-60 minutes after working out

Only reason I can think of why you would choose to have no carbs in a post workout shake is a CKD type cut/bulk. Even then, I'd still surround my workouts with carbs.

depends if I'm on a cut or bulk
usually I shoot at +50% cabs throughout a bulk
and I lower my carbs on a cut...starting at 40% down to about 15%
I take a combo of malto/dex/HRS (hyrdolyzed rice carbs)

I eat a regular meal containing carbs+protein; usually cereal+skim milk and a small serving snapper fillet.

weight gainer shake (ie ****load of maltodextrin) mixed with whey. very superior to whey by itself, as you'll actually absorb more of the whey if it's with carbs. don't remember the ratio but you should take more carbs than protein, partially to raise insulin to help absorbption and partially to replenish glycogen stores depleted during workout

I just have a regular meal - dinner. I used to have an OJ and whey PW and 1.5 hrs. later have dinner. Within the last 3-4 mos I've just had dinner and to be honest with you there has been no regression, only progression. I do contribute that partially however to milk and whey before bed, usually because I am hungry again.

    Same here.

Sometimes I replace the 50g dextrose with a peanut butter & jelly sandwich on white bread. While the insulin spike with the dextrose is a bit faster, the post workout PBJ and whey shake works fine. PBJs kick a$$, and this is the only time of the day I can rationalize eating them in my diet.

haha good ratios supirman. did you read 'nutrient timing'? i don't remember the author but i read most of it recently and felt real benefits from following some of the suggestions. your timing of both meals afterwards and their time separation are damn near perfect

i'm 22, been lifting since 15 (for hs football). For a long time, I did Max-OT style training and this is where most of my strength gains came. Currently I'm not payin any attention to strength stuff and I'm working on a mix of high and low volume exercises. The cutting diet I'm using goes hand in hand with the workout I'm using as well. Just trying to get lean for summer.
