The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Question from my journal

    Well, two questions really:

    1. I'm thinking of cutting out the weight gain shake that I've been using and going along with just whey and dextrose. I'm not sure if I should do this -- my aim is to bulk up to about 180-ish and then cut to about 160/165. My question is, will there be less of a fat gain if I stick to whey shakes as opposed to mixing things up as I do now with both a whey-based shake and a casein/whey shake? The casein/whey shake is the weight gain one. Also keep in mind that I eat cleanly most of the time, so any protein not derived from a shake comes from whole foods and soy milk -- soy b/c I'm mildly lactose intolerant. Lactaid is not an option btw -- I get bloated from it.

    2. As for whey shakes, how much whey and how much dextrose is a good proportion? From reading a bunch of journals and threads, it seems that 1 scoop of whey to 5 g dextrose is a good round number but I just wanted to find out ppl's opinions, just in case. What's a good brand or will generic whey and generic dextrose do for my purposes?

    3. Stupid question: how do you measure taking 1 g of dextrose? Is there like a gram sized scoop or other method that I can use? Sorry for the silly question.

    Thanks in advance.

    1)go with whey isolate over concentrate if your lactose intolerant.
    there shouldn't be any diff in fat gain.

    2)pre workout I go for about 40g carbs 30g protein, post workout I do about 70/45
    supplement direct sells it by the 11pound tub I think
    Protein factory sells it (and malto and hydrolyzed rice carbs) by the pound
    and you can also get some at your local brewery store.
    11 pounds last a LONG time since you probably are only gonna be having it post workout!, maybe 6-10 months

    3)gram is a measure of weight, not volume...
    so you could look at the nutritional chart and they should give you a volume/weight amount, like 1tbsp = 14g, or 1cup = 110g or something like that..

    everything is different, like a cup of hydro 520 whey is like 50g and regular wpc is like 80g

    you could weigh a cup and then weigh a cup + the dext and look at the diff!
    hope that helps! (PS< I didn't have my coffee...I might be completely wrong)

    according to this:
    http://www.supplementdirect.com/store_client_files/store_product_files/Pure_Dextrose(091002115921).pdf
    1/3 cup = 80g of dextrose

    here:
    http://proteinfactory.com/store/prod...products_id=55

    1/2 cup = 80g

    On my tub og dextrose it says 1/3 cup =80g. I don't imagine it would be too much different between brands.

    The dextrose bucket I got fro ww.supplementdirect.com said 1/3 cup = 80 grams

    1/3 cup = 1 scoop (the scoop that came with my Optimum whey)

    I usually put about half scoop on my shake along with 1 teaspoon of creatine (about 5 g) and 1.5 scoops of whey.

    I have a ways to go before the vat of Nitrotech is used up. What are some good brands out there? (I'm checking out the ones on the site you provided geoff.)

    black star is the old proteincustomizer.com
    5lbs = 8.95$

    protein factory:
    5lbs = 12.45

    supplement direct
    11lbs = 10$
    50lbs = 40$

    personally I'd go with the supplement direct 50lb tub and split it into 5 10lb buckets and sell them out on here, I'm sure people would buy some!

    although I'm not sure how wbb/hulk feels about group buy type deals
