Any suggestions on how to feel more the side delt as opposed to traps when doing side laterals?
Your trap act's as a stabilizer for the top part of the movement so not really, i've heard from people that when u hold the dumbell downward's(like pouring a jug) it bring the side delt in more but i dont know how, worth a try though...

i lean over and bend my knees a bit, and i hold em in the 'poring water' position lol
Just wanted to let you know that leaning slightly over did the trick, I haven't hit my side delts in a while, it was always my traps...
Is that also true for front raises? (sorry to go off topic but why make a new thread for this)
I find lying laterals help me target the lateral deltoid better.

That looks more like it would be working the rear delts more than the lateral in that animation. It pretty much looks like a reverse flye which would be a rear delt movement.
Also, leaning forward too much will also increase the incorporation of the rear delts.
