    Outer pec definition

    I was wondering what chest exercises are the best for getting your outer pecs cut (outer meaning closes to your arm)? It seems like the hardest part of the chest to get definition because the rest of my chest is lean and muscular but the sides seem to be a little more soft and when I look in the mirror I dont get the look I want...

    you need to become leaner overall..

    You can't spot reduce fat.. Neither can you specifically target outer parts of the chest with certain chest exercises for both groeth or fat reduction..

    I would continue training how you are (pressuming your chest is growing) and concentrate on losing some more fat.

    Also do a search for "upper chest" and I am sure you will find numerous threads to help you

    well alot of people seem to think that you cant target specific parts of the muscle........

    when i first started training, my inner chest was much bigger than my outer(probably close to your situation) so i started doing wide pushups or you can do wide bench presses.......

    well it worked for me.......

    i`ll never flat out say you *cant* or *can* work a specific part of a muscle, but you can try it........

    there is people that believe you can and then there are those that believe you cant.....

    most pros do different exersizes to target specific parts of the muscle and you can see their bodies, but when i look at the body types of those that believe you cant target specific parts they dont really seem to be all that up to par.....it could just be genetics..........

    in the end you have the last say........either try it or dont.......

    Its not a matter of belief. Its a matter of possible vs. impossible. Isolating different heads of a muscle that do the same thing is impossible.

    sometimes there is no rhyme or REASON needed.....

    ha ha remember they said it was IMPOSSIBLE to split the atom.......

    when was the last time someone built a superior chest with just DB flys?

    the muscle either contracts full or it doesnt right? besides it would put a great deal more stress on that specific muscle then say a bench press(tris and delts help) right?

    okay...are we talking about chest quadrants? or monkeys?



    anyways....incline flyes will help your anterior serratus (?) muscles...the ones alon the side of your ribcage, running under you pec (which does not have quadrants).

    that and losing som bf should help with your issue, if i'm understanding it correctly.

    well you have your opinions.......i never said he was right or wrong........in bodybuilding you learn that there may be other ways.......

    im always willing to learn new methods.......

    so tell me what neural effect has to do with gaining muscle.......i was aware that nueral effect allowed you to be able to lift more weight making you stronger.......stronger does not mean bigger......... you would get more neural effect with just 1 max rep would you not? but it is tried and true 6 - 12 reps is best for mass.....

    theres is a such thing as too much stress on a muscle? wouldnt you just take longer recovery.........wouldnt that be more of an overload?i thought the whole goal was to stress the muscle.......

    all im saying is there are different schools of thought.........the goal in powerlifting is to lift alot of weight, the goal in bodybuilding is to build a bigger muscle.......

    so what you`re saying is only barbell curls are needed in building great biceps? and anything else would be a waste of time? one exersize is all that is needed?

    You're changing the subject here.

    The topic isn't whether or not powerlifting or bodybuilding bulids more muscle, but whether or not you can isolate different parts of the chest.

    There is no inner vs. outer chest. It's one muscle with insertion points. It's not a matter of my opinion vs. your opinion. It's a matter of 40,000+ years of evolution and human physiology that cannot be argued.
